I had an application to drop off in London yesterday, so Kate and I made a day of it. This required us getting up far too early in order to stop off along the way so I could pick up an application form for work in a Catholic school (of all places). However, once my errands were done, we had a wonderful day.
We headed to Kew Gardens first. On the way we found a really amazing little organic food store right near the tube station. Lunch was had and then we wandered over to the gardens only to find that there's a £12.50 (per person) admissions charge. Yipes! Suffice to say we decided to skip that plan.
We then headed over to Leicester Square to meet my friend Max and his friend Cleo. We had a very European afternoon of chatting while drinking coffee (tea for me) in a sidewalk cafe and wandering around the National Portrait Gallery. I adore their contemporary section and would love to get myself a print of
this one. Big surprise, huh?
Kate and I then went and had dinner at a nice Italian place (artichoke pizza - yum!). Feeling quite full, we located (with amazingly few wrong turns), the
Soho Theatre, where we drank very alcoholic cocktails and watched a wonderful piece of theatre (
Venus as a Boy). Kate drank her first ever long island iced tea and was singing the play's praises as we walked to the tube station. I had a mojito and was very impressed by the piece. Amazing work and, as Kate pointed out, very uplifting for being about one person's downfall and death.
To top it all off, we browsed a bookshop on the way home.
Organic food, friends, cafe, museum, Italian food, theatre, drinks, bookshop... that's my kind of day. ( :
The only damper was that I was engaged in a texting argument with a former housemate about some money owed. We'll see how that develops and I may resort to ranting at some point in the future.
Today we are going to attempt to lay insulation in the attic. Not the best of jobs, but it must be done.
