1. I made a mathbook-style layout for one of the challenges that have been running recently at theskilltester if anybody wants to use it :)

2. I've shown you my favourite 25 icons by me (which is already out of date :P) and now here are my current 25 from everybody else

just comment if you want to know who made any of them :)

3. I've been rewatching The Inside and thank god it's just as good as I remember it being. I first watched it four years ago when I was young and naive and fell in love with how incredibly dark and sinister it was. It was definitely one of the shows that has changed me from who I was to who I am.

For those of you who are persuaded to watch shows based off of the prettiness, it is INSANELY pretty. The lead actress is Rachel Nichols and she's pretty much flawless. The lighting is really fantastic and much like the overall style of the show, very dark. It reminds me of something Joss Whedon said in the audio commentary about whoever lit Serenity and how they don't just light the scenes with light, they also light with shadows.

Also it's written like a dream. Everything is so psychological and the writers are always thinking a step ahead. And while it's very dark (I know I sound like a broken record, but I can't emphasise it enough. Blood and gore everywhere, but it's not traumatic at all if you're not into that kind of thing) it still has ingenious little flashes of humor that somehow don't break the mood at all. Jane Espenson and Tim Minear are behind the writing of it and you can tell. Neither of them has ever failed to deliver.

4.

a)
I think maybe it's a bit too brown overall, something about it just looks very bland to me. Oh and this was a colourization, by the way :)

b)
haha, I would've never thought in a million years I'd make a Settlers III icon, but it seems lately I've been in a gaming mood :P I really like the magentas of the buildings and the cyans in the water.

c)
I was inspired by toastandtea, my most recent icon muse (if you couldn't already tell ;)) but I think this came off looking ugly :(

d)
I LOVE the softness and Melissa George's lips are amazing, but something about the colouring isn't flooring me.

e)
boring beyond belief

f)
I think this may work without the light textures because the section on the right that has none has some really fun depth to it.

g)
this reminds me a bit of blindbeats, but on a day that blindbeats went insane and made horrible icons with blown-out red shadows.

h)
the softness and colouring really work for me, but it needs something going on with textures or other colours or something.

i)
let this be a lesson to me: never sharpen your icons ever, even if you think they're blurry. It's a lesson I've told other people so many times you'd think I would have learnt it by now :P

j)
I actually like this a bit. Having the drawn in effects kind of works for me. I mean, it could definitely be better but I think it could be a whole lot worse.

k)
Bland. Average.

l)
I love this. A lot. The darkness, the colours, her bone structure, that dance's choreography. It represents so many things I find beautiful about the world packed inside of a 100x100 square :D

m)
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I went nuts and blew out the yellows in the blue channel with curves, which I hate so I don't know why I did it. Also I blew out the reds. And the blues. And the greens. :/

n)
I like this but I feel it needs some highlights. I'm okay with the whitest part of the cap being dark, but I feel like something else needs to be added to make up for it.

o)
I made this recently and haven't quite got an opinion on it yet. I think I like it. The repeated images irks me slightly, but I also like it because it's kind of like an alter ego thing. And the colours are nice. I've been trying to work off of a compliment motorized gave me, that my colours are always 'rich' because I realised that's what I'm always subconsciously aiming for and I think I achieved richness... maybe? :P

p)
o alternate, duh.

q)
I liked this a lot when I was making it, the colours seemed to interact really well with each other, but then I resized it down to 100x100 and it just looks like a mess now. But... maybe it's a good mess? This is another one where I haven't settled on an opinion yet so feel free to weigh in :P

r)
Horrible, average, etc.

s)
I'm crazy about the richness to the greens and cyans but the shadowing in the bottom left hand corner is just awkward

t)
I really like this, but ultimately I just feel like it's a worse version of this

u)
I like this, but I think there's a bit too much orange. I suspect it would look nice with a colder colourscheme

v)
Average

5. I just found some very fantastic textures here. They're very similar style-wise to elli's infamous paint/grungey textures (if you use the paint/grunge/wood tags), but they're a lot bigger and a few of them are seamless so you can use them for large and unusually sized wallpapers without any problems :D
