I'm still a bit frustrated about the one file that didn't get tracked properly, because it really is throwing off my word count and I don't know by how much. But based on the numbers I could confirm, and the way I handled it, my writing output for 2015 ended up being 215,991 words. There's a chance I could write more today and tomorrow, but we'll go with the ~216,000 words for the year.
Most of this, to my lack of surprise, is on WC. I wrote just under 100,000 words on it that were posted. My unposted word count for WC is about the same as it was last year, although the files are completely different.
I wrote about 21,000 words on the id-fic (Khan POV), and about 13,000 words on the Jim POV section.
About 11k went to the FF maybe-sequel, most of that in the last couple months. I wrote about 4,500 words on a bit from the FF universe that focuses on Bones, too.
I wrote just over 25k on an original a/b/o universe that I'm not sure what I'm doing with, so it's on hold at the moment.
Other files: I wrote 2600 words on my kitty!Cat universe, and that may end up being a big thing if I ever really dig into it but I'm not certain how I feel about it. I'm also not sure where I'm going with it, so there's that.
My uni AU project is a little frustrating because that's the one I think I miscounted somewhere in there. Based on the way I calculated it I ended up with a little over 29k for 2015, but again, I don't know if that's wholly accurate. I mean, I wrote a chunk on it this year but I don't know if I wrote 29k words.
Another wholly-original story clocked in at just under 8900 words. This one is so ridiculous and over-the-top I doubt I'll do much more with it, but it was fun for a time.
I wrote a ton more in 2014 than I did in 2015, but there were some really good reasons why this was. Aside from my mom's death, in 2014 I started the id-fic and wrote like 150,000 words on it in a month. Or something; it was a pretty intense few weeks, IIRC. I didn't have anything quite like that this year. The closest I came were the original a/b/o and the FF maybe-sequel. I also finished FF in 2014.
Overall I'm mostly pleased with my output this year. I did sign up for GYWO again next year, same pledge level, and I'm hopeful I will manage it or at least do better than I did this year. It is a bit frustrating that I wrote about 450k in 2014 and 215k in 2015, but that's entirely self-imposed frustration. Most people I know would be thrilled to write over 200k in a year.
Aside from the numbers, though, I think the quality of my writing has improved. Do anything long enough and you get decent at it, and I've done so much writing in the last couple years I think it's showing. I know FF started in one place and ended somewhere very different, and I do think the quality of the writing improved as I continued the story. FF showed me I could sustain a narrative for that long.
WC is showing me I can sustain a narrative and an overall plot for longer. FF didn't exactly have one overall plot; ostensibly the story was about them in the year the Enterprise was refitted before the 5-year-mission, but that wasn't much of a plot; more of a setting. I didn't really get into a sustained plot arc until about 2/3 through the story (maybe 3/4). But WC has had one overall plot from the beginning, and while I've had diversions and detours and sub-plots the main one has held up for over 400k words and will be continuing for another...I don't know.
I do think I can finish WC in 2016. Whether or not I finish before hitting 500k and/or 100 chapters, I don't know. I've posted 60 chapters so far, and my chapters are averaging between 5-7k. So if I hit 100 chapters...yeah, that'll be freaking huge. 500k is huge all on its own, and I'm pretty sure I've got more than 100k left on the story. Maybe. I keep saying I'm going to flow time and then it keeps not happening.
For 2016, I'm still wondering what projects I'm going to be working on other than WC. I'd like to finish at least one section of the id-fic, but I'm still very hesitant to post it. This likely won't stop me--I did, after all, start posting a wingfic WIP with a het OC pairing--but I'm still dithering on it. Because I did start it and am continuing it mostly as a present to
tigertale7, she did ask that I not post it until it's done. Which is really fine with me. Whether or not I'll finish both sections prior to posting, I'm not sure. I at least want to finish the Khan POV and make progress on the Jim POV before I post it--the Jim section has some half-finished scenes and jumps that need smoothing over/finishing, and I want to patch that up.
I also want to work on the uni AU; the problem there is that I have two versions of it and I don't know which I'm going to work on. There's the fanfic version, with my core augments and some Trek characters, and then there's the all-original version with a threesome for main relationship. I'm dithering there, too; lately I've been working on the fanfic het version of it, but I do have what I think is some solid writing on the 3some.
The original a/b/o I like, but I don't know where I'm going with it. It's on the back burner until I figure that out.
As for the FF maybe-sequel...I'm hoping that can stay on the back burner until I decide if I'm actually going to write it or not. I probably will end up doing stuff with it, and I'm not proud of it but part of the reason there is that I have a built-in audience for it and the feedback would be lovely. I've always modified my writing based on what people respond to, so this isn't that different.
And as usually happens, I figure I'll end up starting something new in 2016. I have zero idea what it will be, but I'm sure there will be something I didn't expect that shows up and demands writing. We'll see...
