I cannot remember if I mentioned this or not (I probably did) but at GeekGirlCon this past October I bought myself a really gorgeous corset. It's blue with black accents, and the fabric has this lovely sort of spiral pattern on it. I'm calling it my TARDIS corset because the blue is close to the right shade, and the pattern on the fabric is kinda reminiscent of what I've seen of Gallifreyan writing. TARDIS-inspired?
Anyway, I need your help with it. I'm intending to wear said corset to Norwescon, which I am attending for reals next March, but I have two problems. One, I'm going to need help getting into it which means I'll need Morgan's help but he's not going to the con, so I either need to drive down to Seatac in said corset or find a way to get into it once I get there. But that's not the issue I need help with.
You see, I bought said corset but the person I bought it from doesn't sell much in the way of clothing to go under said corset. So I need a chemise, and/or a skirt and shirt, or whatever else goes under it. I have a couple black tank tops I think I could get away with in a pinch, but I still need a skirt.
Looking online has given me a lot of options but not a lot of detail about quality of clothing or anything, and I'm just not familiar enough with the Ren Faire and/or SCA and/or steampunk communities to know where to look. I also need stuff built for plus-size women, which is sometimes harder to find. I mean, chemises and skirts are designed to be loose, but even so. A lot of things are based on measurements so I guess I need to take mine before I can seriously figure out what I need to buy.
So: If you know of a good site or shop that sells chemises and/or skirts and/or blouses that would go under a corset, please tell me. Bonus points if they do plus-size or can custom make things.
The other, more minor issue I'm having is that most chemises come in white or off-white, but I want my under-corset stuff to be black because I think it'll go much better with the corset. But that is easier to work around; a lot of places I've seen have chemises and skirts in black. (Skirts actually aren't the problem; the chemise is).
I'm also unclear on what exactly I do need--is a chemise enough, if it's long, or do I need a skirt to wear under the corset too? Halp!
I thought I had a lot more time but Norwescon is the end of March, so I've got three months. This should be enough time, but you never know.
Also, is anyone going to Norwescon? I don't have a hotel room and I'm probably not getting one (I don't even know if I could at this point) but I'll have my car, and will be driving back and forth every day. I'm not thrilled about it but it's cheaper than the hotel, so there you go. (If you do have a hotel room and are interested in a roommate though, let me know!)
Morgan and I talked about my going to ECCC for a day or something, but I never bought a pass and I think they're sold out now anyway. But honestly it's fine, because I think it would be too much for me. It's become huge, and crowded, and I think I'd get overwhelmed really fast. And since Morgan carpools with Ketina and Ronelyn to get there, I'd likely end up stuck there all day. So I'm skipping.
Norwescon though is more my speed. It's literary-focused, which is right up my alley. The GOH for next year is one of my all-time favorite authors (really excited about that one) and while it's big, it's a bit more spread out than ECCC. I'll have my car, so if I need to leave I can. And I don't mind going to cons by myself really because I can usually find someone to talk to.
Of course, between ECCC, Norwescon, and flying back to NJ for my mom's unveiling April is going to be an insanely busy and expensive month. I don't want to think about what two plane tickets plus boarding Buddy will cost. I'll worry about that later.
I think I may talk to A about dyeing my hair blue before Norwescon, so it can match or almost match my corset. That may be silly, but I really want blue hair. (Although the purple is fabulous and I get so many compliments on it.)
But. Yes. Chemise, I need one, and skirts. Help?
