Shattered 1x10 (finale)

Nov 18, 2010 23:49

I think I kind of spoiled myself last night noseying around the interwebs while the show was airing *headdesks forever* but ANYWAY. I will pretend I saw nothing and soldier on. *g* This is it, the finale of Shattered.

*dives in*

Episode 13 10 - Out Of Sorrow.

We start with a couple in their kitchen, the wife is off to work, hubby at the dinner table with his laptop.

Ew, okay. Remind me not to go over to their house for dinner.

Man in a hat shoots the hubby. Safe to say he is NOT forgiven.

Our heroes are on the case, they find a memory stick... but where is the computer?

Ah, I wondered when a tech wizard would show up on this show. Every cop show has to have one, right? :D?

Hee. Someone pilfered Terry's juice. I can almost sense the eyes turning to Amy. WE KNOW YOU DID IT, LYNCH. *g*

They're viewing the contents of the memory stick. It has pictures/videos of wee boys on it. Sick freak.

Ben's kid is on the screen? BEN'S KID. ON. THE. SCREEEEEEEN!

Pam takes Ben off the case but somehow I don't think that will stop him from doing anything.

Throws down badge and gun, and he's off! The rest of the team are concerned.

oh no. Nick is back. (ooh, but I see Molly's in this episode. yay!)

"I'm seeing a therapist." So is half the police department.

Nick still has issues.

Now we're with Ben and his trigger wall - he pulls a key off the ceiling.

Is that a drawing of a wolf? It looks really cool. *wonders when that happened* Hey, maybe he didn't leave the gun behind, I see another one on the table. Heh.

Flashback! He's eating! Looks messy.

Wait, maybe this is a dream - there's a lot of 'missing' posters of Adam behind him. *squints*

Ok, who's the old guy? He's giving Ben the heebie jeebies, whoever he is.

The Doc is making house trailer calls now. That's dedication for ya.

Aw, Amy was worried. IT'S BECAUSE SHE LUFFS HIM. <3

Judging from the Doc's reaction to the trigger material, I don't think he's been here before.

Woah wait. WHUT? His step-father?? Ah ha.

Oh Ben. HIS EYES. STARING INTO MY SOUL. aksjkadkjhkfjhdkf.

Ahem. Back to Ben's flashback/dream with the wicked step-father.

He tells Ben his mother died. Ben reaction: Not even a flinch.

i think the step-father is hoping for forgiveness, here. Ben reaction: drink tea.

"you found God. Go ask him." HARSH. And yet, I don't blame Ben at all.

Now we're in the cafe with Ben and the Doc. The Doc is pushing. He's trying to help you, Ben!

Back to the case - Amy is interrogating the sicko hubby's wife. She's protecting him, even though he's now a dead sicko. Hmph.

Ben's house, wandering around the garden with the Doc, still pushing those memories.

Eeee, Daddy!Ben with Adam. <3

Uh oh. The Evil Step-Father has shown up.

It's Ted! So Ted WAS still around... and I am having a realisation about something. o.O

Back to Amy's interrogation.

And flashback to Ben at his house again... Adam is gone!

NO AMY. Don't go to dinner with that freak.

Terry takes over the interrogation. He's gettin' MEAN on her ass.

Mean Terry gets results! \o/

Okay, serious moment after Ben's son disappeared tarnished by HILARIOUS 'tache on Terry's face. DUDE. What IS that thing?!

Ella! She is understandably hysterical. She's mad at Ben.

Oh my. Callum and Molly are awesome. ♥

Doc sees the flaw in Ben's recollection. Hmmmm...

They know the leader of the pedophile ring! Plan to catch him is put into action.

Flashback: Ben and tache!Terry are pulling the bad cop/badder cop routine on Ben's step-father.

Woo lookit Ben go, he's punching the crap out of him! Lots of pent up anger there. (and yet, no Sam????)

Tache!Terry questioning the step-father: he denies everything. "Ben grabbed the kid and ran off." That's the big clue right there.

Angry Ben is angry, but he couldn't do anything. Fear is a powerful thing. :(

What did Terry say? Detective Idiot?

Okay, the sting is being put in place. That is, Terry has to meet with the pedophile ring leader in the park.

Hall says Ben shouldn't be there, Ben says rock n' roll. ;) Guess that means he's good to go!(does Hall have an endless supply of purple shirts?)

The leader, Leo, arrives to talk with Terry.

Skin. Crawling. Ugh.

No, no, no, Ben. It's not Adam. OMG. *can't look*

RUN, LEO. WEASEL. Take him down, Hall. YEEEAAAHHH.

Oh Ben. :( Hall pulls him off.

Leo is the kid's father? Dayum.

Wait, WHEN did Amy get an apartment?! And HOW did Nick find her so fast? Ah yes. He's a STALKER.

He LOVES her??!? FUNNY WAY OF SHOWING IT.

oooft. Therapy is definitely not working for Nick.

Kick him in the balls, Amy! Or go for the old gunshot wound, at least. Holy fucksticks...

Now Ben is staring in the mirror, telling the Doc he's not sure if what happened was a dream or not.

Flashbacks, wee!Ben being beaten again. Oh, Ben. :(

Okay, now Ben is off to 'rescue' Amy. Woah..

A 'Situation.' Is... Nick the douchebag dead?

She ended up like that so Nick wouldn't print the story. FOR YOU, BEN. IT'S LOVE, you see.

O.O This is the freakout moment of the episode, obviously. OMFG!

Nope. Douchebag is still alive. Darn. *coughs*

Ben remembers something! PHEW. Amy goes with him to his trailer.

Flashback to Ben playing with Adam in the front garden again. (still sweet!) Step-father appears.... and SO DOES TED. EEEEEEEEEE!

adult!Ted took Adam away. I KNEW IT. *kermit flails*

"Don't call me Dad. My name is Ted." I wonder if Adam ever met Ted before?

He's taking him to Carol's house! (Adam, stay away from the burgers. ;)

Carol's looking at Ben a wee bit funny. I wonder if she knows he's not exactly, uh, of sound mind.

Ben's got a drawing of the house, he shows it to Amy. How the hell are they supposed to find it, though? GOOGLE MAPS? *bites nails*

Okay, they've found the house. Ben uses his key, and goes in. Jeez, I hope Carol hasn't moved. Try explaining all THIS to new occupants.

Oh phew, she's still there. HI CAROL. :D

She says Adam's there too. \o/ SO GLAD. I was worried she'd put him into foster care when Ted!Ben didn't come back.

Ben's relief is palpable. He's crying... he's going to make me cry! *bites lip*

Adam paints. JUST LIKE CALLUM DADDY DOES.

Ben can finally take his boy home! THE HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG. I can't even..... *wails*

(OMFG, if Callum ever produced a child, I swear. *dies at the adorableness* *grabs more tissues*)

THE END. *sniffles*

******

As season finales go, I AM COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY by the sheer AWESOME they pulled out for this one. The intensity, and EMOTIONS was FANTASTIC. It did end on a happy note, albeit one completely tear-stained and my keyboard is now wet, thank you Callum. :P

So, Adam was found safe and well, after all the hurdles Ben encountered he finally got through his fog to find his son. \o/ As it turned out, Adult!Ted took him to Carol's to keep him safe from the evil Step-father. Bittersweet in a way - it was Ben protecting his son the whole time, he just didn't KNOW it. Maybe there had been nothing to trigger Ted's appearance again in the 2 years since Adam 'disappeared', that is, until the punchbag/swing from last week. Like Ben said in last week's episode, 'you'll remember when you remember.' NICE. :)

I did briefly consider back around the 2nd episode that maybe one of Ben's alters might have taken the kid. Dismissed the thought, given the only alters we had been introduced to at that time were, um, questionable characters? It would not bode well if Sam, Ivan, or Harry had led Adam off. we'd be looking for a 10 year old alcoholic for one thing. :P But HEY. I liked that it was Ted, he was the best choice, and good work keeping him under wraps until almost the end of the series. :D

Just one question though: if Adam was indeed on the screen at the start of the episode, is Carol not as nice as she seems? How did his photo end up on the pedophiles laptop? Saying that, no one really confirmed the photo was actually Adam, and obviously for two years Ben didn't have a recent pic, just an "age enhancement" photo. Maybe it was just a case of extreme mistaken identity. They kind of let the case o' the week plot slide after Leo was bulldozed to the ground by Hall anyway, so... *throws hands up*

That little niggle aside, the whole episode was in your face fantastic. Really packed a punch - literally, on more than one occasion. Great performances from Callum, and Camille, and just... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

*phew*

ETA: the missing episodes. IMDb suddenly listed 2011 for the missing 3. So I scuttled on over to Shattered's FB page where Rick Drew, the creator, said when Global re-run the show next year they will likely air all the episodes. I don't know why they didn't just do that in the first place, I've given up trying to make sense of that network. Point? We WILL get them at some point. *tries to be a patient grasshopper* :D!
