Catching Up on the Writing and Too Many Movies

Aug 21, 2007 23:04

I wrote over 2000 words of Animal Control today! Starting to make up for having written nothing yesterday or Sunday. I only typed five pages of Chapter 20, though, so I still need to catch up on the typing.

I was really depressed during the day yesterday because when I got to the church I discovered that THE DOOR HAD BEEN LEFT UNLOCKED after Coffee Hour on Sunday. Blergh! I spend five hours a day, four days a week completely alone in that building and someone seems to think I LIKE worrying about whether people are lurking in there when I arrive! I already must screen people wishing to enter, but hey, who cares about whether I feel safe, or whether someone walks off with the office computer or anything else from the church that could be fenced!

:sigh: I try not to do this very often, but this incident resulted in my sinking into a mire of depression and self-centered No One Gives A Damn About Me thinking. I spent the afternoon walking around the building very carefully, in case I hadn't checked out the place as carefully as I thought I had, and getting absolutely nothing useful done, because watching episodes of Ugly Betty online probably doesn't count as "useful". And then when I got home, after telling my daughter that UB was a good show, we watched the first two episodes together (so I watched them TWICE yesterday, that's how productive I was!) and I got nothing written, typed, edited, etc.

I felt much better today; it helped that I managed to get to the gym, where I biked 12 miles and did a complete weight-training workout while reading Ursula K. LeGuin's The Dispossessed, except when I was watching CNN on the television I could see from the bike and worrying about whether Hurricane Dean would get as far as El Salvador, where nine people from our church (including the pastor!) are on a trip to our sister parish. Fortunately, it seems to have been downgraded to a category 3 storm and may soon be a category 2. Hopefully it will just fade away completely soon.

Tomorrow's my day off and there are a lot of movies I want to see but will probably not be able to see them all before they leave the theatres. Just before noon we're going to see Gypsy Caravan, a documentary about a Gypsy music convention, and then we're going to get the bus farther down to South Philly to see Stardust after having some lunch. (That way we don't have a one-hour busride all the way down there just to see the one movie--we'll already be half-way there when we go to Gypsy Caravan.) I'll still have my writing notebook with me, so if we have a lot of downtime between lunch and the movie I can still get some writing done while waiting. Otherwise most of my writing will probably take place tomorrow night.

I'd still like to see Ratatouille, Sicko, Superbad, The Bourne Ultimatum and some others I'm not even remembering right now, but will probably not see even half of them. It seems weird to consider that the first summer that my husband and I were dating, 24 years ago, we went to something like three or four movies a week! Of course, TLA used to be a true repertory film theatre, so we were able to see new releases at "regular" theatres and at TLA we saw things like North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief, Casablanca, Double Indemnity, etc. Great stuff.

Time for bed now! Going to the gym early in the morning, before spending the rest of the day being much less virtuous. Need to rest up!
