I’m probably going to regret spending work time on typing this, as I’m really busy at the moment and there are several hundred other things I could be doing, but my concentration is shot to pieces. Also, the afternoon is dragging because I am not keeping myself busy and allowing my mind to wander, so that’s another reason I should just bury myself with my work.
However, the reason for the distraction is, you’ve guessed it - house related. You see, one of the houses that went under offer before we could view it was on a street of Victorian terraces which are basically all pretty much the same inside give or take a few features which are present in some but not in others. It was one of the favourite houses I had seen and despite not being in our ideal area, was too good not to investigate. Like I say though, we never got the chance to investigate because it was under offer by the time we contacted the agents.
I found a couple of others in the same street or neighbouring streets, but they too were under offer and it was just a case of the internet listings not being up to date. We have arranged a viewing for a similar-nut-not-really-as-nice property on Saturday morning, just to get us out to the location and seeing what the houses ‘feel’ like. Buuuuuut, last night I noticed another house for sale on the street I’d originally looked at! It’s been on the market since November 08, so when I called the agents this morning, I wasn’t very confident in it still being available, but it is!!
I’m not going to jinx things by posting details or pictures at this stage (though in a fit of no-willpower I did show the pictures to my secretary, bad me) - firstly, to keep myself from getting too excited about it and secondly, because even if we view it there may be other people who’ve recently seen it and are still considering making an offer. I’m half expecting receiving a call on Friday afternoon to tell me it’s gone. What I will say, is that it’s a lovely house, a Victorian terrace with original features including the fireplaces and wooden floors. It’s on the market at the top of what we realistically want to spend (even if we do negotiate a reduction in price) but from my perspective, if the actual house matches up to how the photos make it look, then it is special enough to justify the spend-age. Obviously, that will need to be the case for Paul too, and I’m not sure period features are as big a deal for him!!
Oooh - and Cat, it’s on the Victoria Line in Zone 3 so I’m inching closer to where you are and making it easier for us to meet up :P
Hmmm - but must not get carried away by the lovely pictures. I have downloaded several “lists of questions to ask when viewing a house” and will go through those over the next few days to select which are relevant to us. The internet is such a big help, because we’ve already been able to trace the purchase history of the property i.e. we know how much the current owners paid for it! Plus we have a whole host of information about the general price of houses in the area and the crime levels, local facilities and council details. As much as I might *squee* like a crazy person over the photos, I’m not going to throw all of my money at something which won’t prove to be worth it.
To be honest, I think that half of my improved mood comes from the fact that (all being well) we’re finally able to view one of the houses on this road. At least we’ll then know whether or not the pictures tell an accurate story about the property and if it turns out to be massively disappointing, we’ll know we can shift our focus elsewhere without having to wonder what if…
