Laundry Stuff

There is one washer and one dryer being shared amongst 12 apartment tenants. I bought my own compact washer and dryer and put the washer in the bathroom. I figured it would be easiest to hook it up to the sink and drain it in the bathtub. That way I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not the kitchen sink would drain fast enough.

Here was the bathroom when I moved in:

Here it is with the washer squeezed in:

Yeah, it's not easy working around it, but I can move it out when I really need to.

Anyhoo, it turns out the drain hose does have to be raised up during the wash/rinse cycles--otherwise the water drains right out as it is filling--which made it too short. I had to kind of rig this setup:

Except the shower curtain wasn't heavy enough to stay put causing it to sometimes slip ending with a small flood in the bathroom. I bought some vinyl tubing with which to extend it.

Now it works fine and I can do laundry in my apt without having to wait for the building machine to be available nor do I have to lug everything to the laundromat.

The dryer, otoh, is a different matter.

It runs on household 110 v and will only dry a couple of things or so at a time--running it 3 or 4 times on the heavy cycle. One time I dried it all in the building dryer, until my card stopped working. Now I get an error message. Which means going to get a replacement card, when I get around to it. In the meantime my options are hanging everything up to dry, which eventually causes stuff to get stretched out, or still lugging it to the laundromat. Or drying everything in my dryer.
