This is funny. Well, I think it is, but maybe I'm just a nerd. For what it's worth, I was taught BODMAS (in year 4, just after being introduced to fractions but before we actually knew what brackets/orders were), even though all the Americans in that thread are talking about multiplication before division. I realise there's no real difference and the important ones to remember are the first two plus the last two pairs, it's just a bit confusing.
I like the pineapple experiments mnemonic, though.
Wait, is the "o" in BODMAS Orders? I honestly can't remember, I just remember we were told that BPDMAS would be a bit harder to pronounce. Wikipedia says orders, or alternatively BIDMAS and substitute an "i" for Indices. And weirdly, I was taught that you can call them Indices or powers, not Orders... but we used BODMAS anyway. Aaah, I'm not even a GCSE student yet and I'm already losing my memory. That probably isn't a good thing.
Unfortunately, reading that post also reminded me that I left out a page of trigonometry in the Maths workpack and now I'm going to have to dig through the graveyard of lost schoolwork to find my textbook again. Damn trigonometry. Only vaguely practical thing we saw it used for was to calculate the height of Pretty-Hair Tom, and I don't see why anyone wants to know that. Pretty-Hair Tom might, but he doesn't count as anyone.
