i forgot to mention that yesterday i offered Emily (taz's little lessee) a ride on beejay.

Now before you all think i am a crazy child endangerer, i think emily is a MINT little rider. she's VERY quiet & calm & soft and super balanced. she's obviously had very good technical instruction from Oriel Park & then some hoony/jumping instruction from Claremont. I wouldn't have offered if i didn't think she would cope.

and boy o boy, was i right!

he hadn't been ridden in a week so i had a little burn around first - w/t/c etc.

then up she jumped. he knew straightaway that she was a different rider (she weighs about 30kg!) and was quite toey at the start. he broke into a trot & then about 1/2 a circle around started cantering. and she just sat there so quietly & softly & wasn't at ALL concerned about it... so much so that i asked, "did you ask him to canter?"

haha, "no."

so i was like, "okay well bring him back to a walk." took a couple of goes, but she did. then i showed her a few things about inside leg/outside rein & leg yielding etc & using her seat to steer & she did a mintox job. he trucked around like a giraffe for a little while but eventually she got her mojo & he was reaching for the contact & going along very quietly with no fuss.

STOKED.

i explained the importance of contact & bend with a horse like him, compared to taz who is happy to mooch around with reins flapping. i then showed her how to do Turns on the Forehand as well.

then kelly from next door came over & she had a ride as well & he looked FANTASTIC. just so nice & forward & happy. she had a good little burn around & i was able to show emily about keeping a consistent contact.

anyway, i think she enjoyed herself on him & he was able to show her what it's like to ride a nicely schooled horse. Kelly likes him too & talked about what a powerhouse he feels like. which is so true & why it's SO FUCKING HARD when i ride mouse who has no engine at all!

so yeah, every ride now that i'm having with beejay just feels so successful and awesome. love the red horse!
