omfg photobucket is soooooooo slow & for some reason LJ is soooooooo slow too & it's all just very difficult.
anyway. it's a long weekend (ANZAC day - memorial day for australian & new zealand soldiers. April 25th 1915 saw the unsuccessful landing of ANZAC soldiers at Gallipoli & the memorial is a big deal in this country). i MEANT to do lots of marking (that i didn't do in the holidays, haha) but instead all i've done is watch movies (A Christmas Carol, Aliens, The Crazies), cook yummy foods (tacos!), go to the gym or walking and play with ponies.
Saturday was especially exciting for non-horsey reasons (!!!), but then i also managed to get a lesson from Carly at 1pm and have a lovely horsey afternoon. After our lesson i drove down to kwinana with her to visit her old horse (Toby) and see her give a bit of a "lesson" to his new mummy. we also looked at a TB gelding she's sort of interested in 'doing up'. tell ya what, he certainly doesn't look like the $12k his current owner paid for him! jeez, it's amazing what a few years in a back paddock can do for a horse's appearance, that's for sure.
then yesterday i rode mouse whilst paul & karen took some sale pics. i am quite happy with how she's going - she's still not very consistent, but she's not trucking around like a giraffe anymore, and she's not motorbiking corners or anything. she needs a SHITLOAD of leg tho & it's quite exhausting riding her. i was secretly very pleased with how the photos turned out - i had this impression that she was just plunking along but in every pic she is pretty much moving under herself beautifully, which is great. she really does have stunning movement. i wish i could show you guys the pics, but i didn't get any on my cam, only on paul's. the BEST pic shows this incredible trot with this REACH in her hind end, just amazing. i was like, "DUDE THAT IS THE MONEY SHOT!" she's not as round as i'd like for a 'sale pic' and she's going along with her nose poked out, but *that trot* just makes that concern moot. i think. we'll see.
anyway.
TBH i am really not happy with the way beej and i are travelling at the moment in terms of schooling. it's my fault because i have been very happy to just mooch along for 20min w/t/c sessions & i haven't really been making him do much work. i guess it's just thrilling after so long to be able to get on & have a plunk around without worrying that he'll fry his brain. carly got some pics of the lesson (as usual) so you guys can see - but i'm not seeing working pics that blow my mind (like they have done before). in fact, he looks pretty ordinary. OH carly also thinks we should try a rubber mullen mouth on him because he just doesn't travel as good as he could in what he has one (a double jointed loose ring).
i'm also under instructions to start feeding him up. it feels like we're at the stage where we can start playing around with his diet a little bit to help give him more shape. i've actually been pretty pleased with his 'appearance' for a long time but with the change of season this year, he has dropped more condition than i've ever seen with him. he is 11 this year after all so is heading into middle age & prob needs a bit more, being a tb and all. he only gets a very simple diet as it is:
-hay
-oaten chaff
-lucerne chaff
-pony cubes
-full fat soya
-minerals
so am just increasing the lucerne & pony cubes (by a cup). carly also suggested adding a cupful of pollard, so i'll prob pick some up today at the feed store. carly is also a big fan of rugging so was AGHAST that he'd been left naked up till now. i was like, "HE'S GETTING CLIPPED!!!" but she still thinks he needs more rugging. anyways, i don't have to worry about that cos he's getting clipped today by kelly. hopefully going to do a Full Clip - which i have never had done before, so that will be interesting. we'll see how he goes with the clippers all over his face tho - if he disagrees i'm not going to push it & he can have his face & legs left on.
i picked up a new lite combo for him at the shop the other day, as well as a cream halfpad (our first, omg). and carly's sold me one of her old 1280denier combos and a fleecy neck rug, so he should be good for winter. we don't have a scarcity of rugs anyway.
also, Emily, taz's lessee is interested in lessons with carly. carly was like, "OMG does it canter?" (*it* being taz, lol!). i offered her the use of beejay if she wants. good for beejay, good for emily. good for carly (not having to work with a stb! hahaha). everyone wins.
anyway. we have our first 'real' show on May 10th. i've arranged for carly to come & give me a lesson/help me warm up. Kelly from next door is going to be our groom (she's clipping him today). i'm borrowing a flash browband off
jaanka. should be all good! i'm not going to go all out with makeup or anything, but i'll see what kelly suggests. i really don't want to buy all crazy makeup stuff cos i don't see myself showing THAT regularly! and i'm just wearing a tie with my jacket - no stock or anything.
gotta sew up my gaiters cos the stitching is coming undone. also have dodgy cheap bridle, but i don't care that much. a good oiling will hopefully fix it.
anyway, gotta pick up some Rescue Remedy (for me!).
i think you can really notice how much my position is improving in this photo. it's not consistent yet (as you'll see in other pics), but i'm pretty happy with this. Beej on the other hand is dinking along like a bloody riding school horse!
... and just to remind you of my dodgy positioned, honed after years of bad_riding!
weeeeee!
omg, it is just too painful waiting for photofuckingbucket! i'll have to post more later.
