well, today i found another use for my carrot stick besides scritching my horse's ears and picking things up with it (oh, and i suppose i DO occassionally use it for what it's meant for - just ask my horse

Snaaaaaake! It makes life more interesting than what I see when I go out, all we get here are rats, rats and even a few rats running around the place. Give me a snake any day! Though I have on 2 occasions seen snakes around the horses. One was a dead baby adder right outside my field gate, squished on the road, the second was when someone else was riding Lizzie and I was walking with them, we put Lizzie on the grass as a car was coming and a green snake shot out from just in front of Lizzie and vanished into the greenary. Was really strange to see a snake where we are, but apparently we do have them in the wild. Shall remember your post and pin any down with a stick if I find them again :-)
I want snakes around here:P Apparently there are some, I've just never seen them ever!! I guess there's rattlesnakes farther south too. Do you guys have a lot of poisonous snakes around your area??
the common ones i've grown up with are the Dugite (dew - gite) and the Tiger Snake. That site calls it the most dangerous, but i think that's because it's pretty common, pretty venomous and pretty aggressive. dugites tend to fuck off if you give them a chance. tigers tend to haunt a particular spot & stick around & don't like it if other creatures hangout there too. my dad used to catch snakes. i have this very vivid memory (which i discussed with my dad recently) of him catching a massive Tiger from underneath our outdoor toilet (common in old places here). it's belly was at least as thick as my arm - so pretty damn big. he put it in this really large jar and kept it on our dining table... that says a lot about animal conservation in the early 1980's. dinner guests were greeted with the site of this FURIOUS snake, trapped in a jar. he eventually killed it (put in the freezer) and now it's up on the "snake shelf" in our house, along with a whole bunch of other creepycrawlies. my grandpa used to do that too, so we've got
