Starting tomorrow night I'm
getting my kitties back!!!! I'm both excited and apprehensive.
I'm really, really looking forward to having my babies again. I got Cleo as a combination 30th birthday and graduation gift from my mother, sister and
1handsomedevil back in 1995. When I picked up Cleo from the Toronto Humane Society she was a small cat but already adult at 18 months old. She's tiny and soft and things everything needs cleaning. I wasn't expecting her to come with surprises inside!
Because she was so small, Cleo had only 3 kittens. Only one survived to grow up and that was Tippy, my baby boy (and why Cleo is also called Mama). I've missed him so much... his character, snuggles, rubbing his tummy (when he lets me) and our little routines. I've missed playing fetch with knotted plastic bags and such. I miss Cleo's meow, her purr, her soft, soft fur and things I'm sure I've even forgotten even though she can be a royal pain in the butt.
There's a third cat, a tabby named Sir Frederick of Esplanade (we call him Fred) who will be staying with
1handsomedevil (aka Sweetie) and
silveryone since Fred has connected to Sweetie as his 'person' and is apparently less troublesome for them to handle.
I've been doing a little bit around my apartment to prepare for Tippy and Cleo's arrival - making more space on the floor so they have room to roam, finding and eradicating any elastic bands Cleo might think are tasty, getting little things put away so they can't be dropped off surfaces or batted into corners with their paws.
One thing I'm having trouble figuring out is where to put the litter box. My apartment just doesn't have anywhere good to put it. I want it out of the way and where there's good ventilation. I'm not sure how to make that work from a logistical standpoint.
I'm also a bit anxious about having the kitties here. I've got to learn to give Tippy insulin shots twice daily and feed him special diabetic cat food. I've got to take care of my health by keeping fur accumulation down. I've got to keep the litter box clean and be more watchful for breakables and such. I've got to remember to tell people who are visiting that I have cats now.
But for the first time in 4 years I'll have my babies again to snuggle, play and sleep with. Yaaaaaay!!!
