Remember, remember the fifth of November
The gunpowder, treason and plot
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
Happy (late) Guy Fawkes Day!
I wrote a pitch for Street Magic and the Black London series today. Actually, I cannibalized an old pitch and then Jackie Kessler helped me surgically remove the suck. I feel like I'm querying again...I anxiously emailed it to
raleva31 and sat there at work wondering Will she like it? Is it good enough to pass muster? Ohgod, who else is going to see it? Fortunately, it seemed to work for everyone concerned. Pitches are one of those parts that will never, ever be easy for me, like the Dreaded Synopsis.
Lots of evaluation and approval-seeking lately...I have a performance review later this week, although HR refuses to tell me exactly what day. It's all very mysterious. However, on both the book and job fronts, I seem to have become less neurotic about being put under a microscope...my general reaction to the work review is "Meh." My reaction having to write a book pitch was more along the likes of "OMGWTF I AM DED", but we're working on that.
Iron & Ice
New Words: 950
Total wordcount: 15,038
Mean Things: Even more insults, thrown to the ground by a mortal, making an escape, scolded by a rat
Darling: Oy vey, I'm too tired to scroll back up and pick one. I had insomnia last night because I took a nap. Three hour naps are tools of the devil, much like my DVR box and Starbuck's.
Embarrassing Fruedian typos: I'm incapable of spelling the word "lounge". What does THAT say?
Those wacky Victorians: Mortal men were really uptight back then.
Research topics: Period pistols.
Authorial angst: PITCH. But that's more like Authorial Squee tempered with a bit of Authorial Panic.
TV: DVR of Criminal Minds, Law & Order: CI and Heroes. Who saw the ending of this week coming 100 miles away? /raises hand. Also, my namesake character is in trouble. Save the Caitlins!
Books: Soon I Will Be Invincible (Austin Grossman)
Stimulants: Green Dragon tea
Cats: Victor is attempting to be a scarf for me.
Real life: I'm like the only person who enjoys "falling back", eh? I love that it gets dark early! I love the cold in the air and the turning leaves. I love holidays too...or at least baking stuff to eat on them. I'm a secret domestic freak. Well, not so secretly anymore.
