I know a lot of my readers are also writers, and so I wanted to post about my attempts to use Rachel Aaron’s 10k-A-Day System to finish the first draft of Dark Days, the 6th Black London novel.

I have a confession--I'm really not very good at short stories.
I've gotten better than I was when I had to write them for college classes. Those were dreadful. I've just never taken naturally to short form. Which is why I eschew the advice that "You Must!" (oh, we hate "you must" here at Headquarters) "You must start out writing short stories

I'm working on a YA short right now called "Behind the Red Door" for inclusion in an anthology from Running Press called Kiss Me Deadly. I got the cover today, and it's utterly fantastic:
