Highlights of Hua Hin

Besides staying in at Amari Hua Hin resort, we also did some other fun activities.

One of them was to visit the night market besides the hotel.  There are the Tamarind Food Market and the Cicada Art and Craft Market.  We like the atmosphere in the Tamarind Market and went there for 3 consecutive evenings.

The Tamarind Market is a very interesting food market with stalls selling Thai Padthai, tom yam noodles, seafood etc to pizza, burgers and ribs; to Japanese sushi and yakitori, salmon tori etc.. The variety is amazing and there is live performance.  It's very enjoyable to just sit there to have a meal and listen to some good music.  Very relaxing.

I love the crepes, they have both savoury and sweet ones

Many stalls were actually closed at the Cicada Market.  There are also live performances.

We also explore Hua Hin beach which is north of our hotel.  There were stalls selling beach wear and accessories made from seashore on the way to this beach.

Love this picture, the excitement!

There were also men with their horses waiting for people to take a ride to earn their keep.  We did not ride on the pony but seeing how few people there were, I felt bad so I just paid to take a photo with this young 3 years old pony.  The owner told me the horse name is Lucky.

Thankfully she got to see a sea urchin and not step on it.

I arranged a session of Muay Thai for Anna and Seong at this Pro Muay Thai gym.

We were slightly early and they got the two of them to do some warm up at the machines first.

For the actual warm up, the coach was trying to get Ashley to join in.  The little one was just been groofy.

Before the actual Muay Thai, they helped wrapped up Seong and Anna's hand.

And the action began.  It was quite fun to watch them practice.

While they were warming up, Ashley was jumping outside too.

The Vana Nava rooftop bar was another highlight of our trip.  It was perched on the 27th floor of Holiday Inn hotel, atop the Vana Nave waterpark.  We went there before sun set to have a paranomic view of Hua Hin.  A section of the floor at the bar was made of glass and I actually felt really jittery walking on it.  The other two were much more courageous...

I was mostly shuffling my feet atop the glass bottom, fearing that too hard a foot step may crack the glass.

Shopping, Pedi & Mani, Waxing ....   We did them at Bluport Mall which is directly opposite InterContinental Hotel.  There are 2 malls near our hotel, Bluport and Market Village and in my opinion, just go to the former.  The latter is a bit old and not that interesting anyway.  We also dined at this Japanese restaurant -- Zen.

I had wanted to visit and hike to the Phraya Nakhon cave but unfortunately, we were told that it was closed because of the rainy season.  Instead, we went around Hua Hin and explore the lesser known areas.  Personally, I think all these places are not great and only go if you have time to kill.

We walked around the Khao Tao area where there's a temple built around a mountain.

Khao Thao may be translated as ‘turtle hill’.

We walked around this Khao Tao Lake.  I think the shrine in the middle is pretty stunning.

We also hike up one of the look out point (no.5) at Khao Hin Ket Fei or Flintstone mountain.

We also visited the Artist Village

We also made a toilet stop at the Rajabhaki Park.  There were free buggies that could take us to the 7 big statues (the one here are the minature at the front of the park).  In my opinion, this is the most ridiculous project.  A non revenue generating park that commemorate all the past kings.  Entrance is free and I read that money poured into this project in via donation.  It makes me reflect and admire what our forefather Lee Kuan Yew who made it very clear throughout his life that he did not need and did not want any monument, particularly of himself.
