I'm too tired to go into it. Long story short, I found out Wednesday that I was supposed to be in Fairfield Thursday morning for National Guard duty, unlike when the last unit gave me 24 hours notice before duty, this was an honest misunderstanding, and the 1SG apologized about it a couple of times. Wow. I was able to change my hotel reservations and left Wednesday night. Mapquest is evil. It left out an entire freeway on the directions. As a result I freaked out a little when I hit the I-80 junction to San Francisco, as I thought I had missed the exit I was supposed to take off the 505, the exit does not exist on the 505, duh. I made it safely, though and all was well. The room fucking rocked. The Westwind Inn at Travis is a beautiful hotel, and while the rooms are not large, they are wonderfully appointed. Mini-fridge and microwave are a big fat plus when on military duty.
While in Fairfield I worked, at MY job, the one I was trained for. Yay. Drill was excellent, the soldiers in the new unit welcomed me with open arms. The command and staff were great, and I feel like I'm actually wanted and appreciated there. This afternoon we had an NCO induction ceremony, as there have been several promotions from e-4 to e-5 in the past several months. The new NCOs were congratulated, and the final formation was followed by a cooler full of beer. This I could get used to.
I did some major shopping at the BX because AAFES rocks. Got a new sheet and comforter set for the new bed, new clothes for me and a few things for the kids. Also got a really cool regulation volleyball set for the backyard. We will begin enjoying outdoor activities this spring and summer if it kills me.
After work and shopping and general relaxing I watched the presidential debates the other night. Ron Paul aquitted himself admirably, not backing down when the former mayor (who mentioned that his city was attacked more times than Huckabee quoted the constitution) scoffed at his anti-war statements. Mitt Romney is the biggest fucking idiot I've ever seen, and John McCain put him in his place a couple of times. Go him. Hilary Clinton is a bigger bitch than I thought, and John Edwards is a better democratic candidate than I realized. Obama did well, but he didn't impress me as he has in the past.
I got home around 8:30 this evening, the girls are now home and the cats obviously missed us. I'm done now, not so quick, so sue me. Goodnight.
