The Next One Will Kill You (Angus Green, #1) by Neil S. Plakcy

This is a good book, with a main character with a lot of potential.

Angus is an accountant who was bored with his job and decided that the FBI was a good choice for a change. What really got me was how he explains it: "Saw a sign in a bar that the FBI was hosting a meet-and-greet cocktail party with the local gay chamber of commerce, and I went"

Angus is gay, and he is out and proud, but there are limits! :P So, when two co-workers show-up at the Lazy Dick’s, a gay bar in which he's about to take part in a gay strip-trivia contest... well... it is kinda awkward :P

But it's also a fortunate thing because those same coworkers asked to have him transferred to a case they’re working. And Angus takes every chance he can to prove he is a good agent. He is smart, and bold, and knows what he wants; a great combination for an investigator. And he does a good job: sometimes by working hard, and sometimes by sheer luck. And his knowledge of the gay scene also comes handy; after all, that was the main reason that Vito and Roly (his coworkers, now mentors) requested him.

The story is interesting, and I really like the way in which the clues keep pointing to different kinds of crime with only one common point. The characters, though (except for Angus and Vito), seem a bit one-dimensional for moments but that might be because this is the first book in the series. The only thing I really didn't like was Angus' relationship with his brother. In one moment it is all about his brother (who was having real problems), and how to try to help him; a couple of pages later he has completely forgotten about him.

But all in all, I enjoyed the read and will keep reading the series.
