After posting such a depressing post I’d thought I’d post a nice uplifting one. I’ll start by giving out the link to my fiancé James’ blog. You can find it at
http://blog.foolsjourney.ca/ and so far he updates his blog far more frequently than I do. And his is probably much funnier than mine. So go read it! We should be putting up a wedding website on his site, hopefully before very long.
I love Christmas. I don’t know why since I always end up crazy busy, but I love Christmas. Especially the decorations. And with the space afforded us by the new house this year, we (now it’s probably safe to say that I, with a couple of exceptions, was leading the charge) were able to decorate much more than last year. The last couple of years James has had a small little tree with a few fabric ornaments and a handful of ornaments that he brought from home. I brought over 30 ornaments (probably upwards of 40) from home, many of which have been given to me by my grandmother over the years (one of them is as old as I am!). My grandmother also decided this year that she couldn’t handle putting up her big artificial tree and got a small one to replace it. She offered the 7ft to me and my mom brought it up with her when we went wedding dress shopping in November. I had that baby up and decorated by the first of December (you can read more about James’ ordeal on his blog :-) ). We managed to get a fair amount of ornaments on sale and filled up the tree quite nicely. We also got some other decorations to put around the house and I’ve even started my own little Christmas village.
I got a lot of nice presents this year, including the complete Calvin and Hobbes collection and a foot spa from James, a dvd recorder from my parents and dvds and books from other people. But it was James who got the really awesome gift this year. His mom put in a lot of effort and she managed to find a Wii for James shortly before Christmas (she was dedicated). He also got a couple of games for it including the new Zelda game that I enjoy watching him play sometimes (but have no real interest in playing myself). Of course he’s already played it more than 30 hours. He also got the Wii sports and Monkey ball. We’ve played Wii sports (it’s an excellent intro game) but haven’t really given Monkey ball much of a chance. I actually bought Rayman’s raving Rabbids on boxing day and we’ve been playing the mini games in that. It’s cute and lots of fun and we can play for short periods of time quite easily which suits me. Who wouldn’t want to play a game that involves shooting bunnies with plungers, making them dance and tossing cows? But in terms of real play hours, it’s Lego star wars that sucked me in. James’ mom and I gave him the first two games. We’ve played through the entire first game now and I love it. It’s Lego! Star Wars! You get to play as little jedi and other characters that are lego people! It’s Lego!!!! If you can’t tell yet, I really love it. James and I advanced through all the levels initially in two player mode, but I’ve gone back and replayed several levels by myself (for a few hours) to get studs (i.e. money) and find hidden items. It’s very fun. James has a more detailed and coherent review on his blog. We’ve played the second one a bit but so far it seems longer (in not necessarily a good way) and some of the levels seem more confusing. And the camera (which isn’t so great in the first game) seems even worse at times in this one. But we’ll have to play it more to really say.
And yes, I am still avoiding work. :-) Although it's partly because I can't do assigned reading with a textbook that hasn't arrived yet.
