There Mite Be A Problem

I had not had any issues with bites or itching in the past few weeks. All of that had subsided. But, almost as a confirmation of the existence of these oak mites, after mowing the lawn Friday I started itching again. Last night was the worst, but since it takes 12 to 16 hours for the bites to start to have an effect I am worried that there will be another round of it because of all the work we did outside yesterday.

I read that by late August these things were supposed to be going away, but then I just read this morning that cool fall weather, and moisture, can keep them going. Here I was enjoying the whole cicada emergence earlier this year, only to rue it now that these microscopic creatures are raising hell. What is odd to me is how I am itching in areas that were covered by my jeans. The Sparrow says I need to wash my hands right when I come in, otherwise the ones on the bare areas of my skin may find their way around to other parts when I touch them. It's getting to the point where I may have to start mowing the lawn in a hazmat suit.

Speaking of mowing, so far so good on the repairs I made to the lawn mower. As I wrote yesterday, I moved about 50 loads of mulch, but more still needs to be done. The Sparrow cleaned up a lot of stuff in the vegetable garden and started spraying some of the plants we bring inside with neem oil to try killing off any scale or such that might be on there. The lemon tree in particular is always terribly infested, even when it seems to be lush and healthy throughout the summer.

Not exactly sure what the plan is today, as far as the morning goes. But we do really need to start figuring out how to bring some of this stuff into that garage and kitten-proof it. Time is running out and it is dropping into the 30s overnight this coming week.

We found out at the bar yesterday they have a Halloween party/costume contest on the 25th. I hadn't really thought about dressing up. And it's not exactly the kind of place where people are going to get all into it. But, it is something to do. Not that I want to waste time and money making some costume. Nor do I really feel like digging out some old one. We'll see what happens. I suppose if the spirit hits us, I have been known to whip together a costume pretty fast.

Around lunchtime today we are going to Gayle's (and the BIL's) for a gender reveal party. It's only going to be four or five of us, including them. She just wanted to do something for it. My guess is that the baby is a girl. As of right now, I still don't think the BIL has told his mom or sister.

I don't know how long this whole thing is going to be but I hope to god we are home by like 5:00. I cannot be out late on a Sunday. I need to be back here and mentally preparing for the doom of a work week. Speaking of, there was even more stupidity concerning this VPN tunnel last week that THEIR consultant basically did the entire setup of. The thing wasn't working, instead of going to him, this fruitcake there is asking *ME* to look into it. I.Did.Not.Set.It.Up.

I don't remember if I wrote about all the antics or not, but I am sure I will later if I didn't.
