So yeah, Origins rocked. I was solidly reminded of how much I miss hanging out at the big bar on 2 and I will darned well be back next year. This time with more planning involved. I worked my butt off but it was worth it. Spent the days painting in the booth or wandering the dealers hall (found some nice deals) and the evenings mostly at the bar with a few breaks to play games. Tried the Firefly larp. It was sadly lacking as 2 gms for somewhere between 30 and 50 people does not a good game make. It was darned fun though to end up wandering around in the costume. I had an offwhite linen chinese button down shirt; a leather jacket, very dusterish that came to mid thigh, and I picked up a set of goggles that went great. It amuses me that they were Harry Potter goggles and yet still managed to look kickassedly Firefly given the rest of the outfit. I did have a few issues with them steaming up when I got hot even though they were pushed up my head. I may have to do something about that.
I think I averaged 4-5 hours sleep a night over the whole of last week. The conversations at the bar were awesome and I had a hard time bringing myself to go to bed even when I was exhausted because I was enjoying it so. I spent one night hanging out with Rett and a mixture of the Ironwind Metals guys and the Shadowrun crowd. 4:30 in the morning I stayed up that night. Rett's a bad influence I tell ya. ;) Oh and I owe him a 2am conversation topic. Saturday evening I hung out with Brian and ended up running into Eric Lang. Also ran into Matt, Jenny and some of the old L5r crowd. There was definately a strong element of hanging out with people I hadnt really spent time with in years. Thouroughly enjoyed watching and conversing with Dave Williams who is always a trip and a great guy. One of the best was him singing Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy to the gall on his arm who I also had a quite amusing conversation with. She's a really sweety, unfortunately I was drunk enough when I met her (again it seems, Brians "It's a con, of course we've met" button was highly appropriate for us) that I'm not sure I remember her name. Ginna or Jinny, maybe?
I am glad I brought the wheelchair. It meant I could get down to the resturants (and the movie theater where we saw Superman Returns) without any problems and the dealers hall as well. I didtched it for the larp, even though I probably shouldnt, just because people see you differently with it and I very much wanted them to react to the character, not to me in the wheelchair. Body language is rather important for such things. *shrugs* But yes,I spent almost as much time in it as out, and I cant imagine how poor a shape I'd be in otherwise.
As I have now at least partially recovered from the insainty of Origins (promptly to be bowled over by the insaity of RenFaire this weekend and I trip to NY next weekend) it is now time to get some work done and get this 2 foot friggin dragon "miniature" together. Wish me luck. ;)
