A couple of weeks ago bliss_ and I went to see some great movies at the Toronto International Film Festival. Here are my belated thoughts and some pics. I forgot to mention that yesterday at TIFF, they showed a special short film instead of the commercials. A description:

Last night I went to the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) premiere of Shame, starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Herr Fassbender just won best actor in Venice for this film, and thankfully winged his way across the pond in time for the screening in Toronto. On one hand, I'm sad that there won't be a Nadal/Federer final tomorrow, but Novak Djokovic thoroughly earned the win over Roger today. I've always enjoyed Nole, so I'm very happy for him. Roger's first serve percentage was in the toilet and he had way more unforced errors than Nole -- it's really a testament to Roger being, you know, Roger that it ( Read more... )

TIFF has not disappointed this year. bliss_ and I saw four excellent movies this weekend and had a blast. Random actor sightings on the street ranged from Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush to the guy who played Max in "Nightmare" in SPN S1 (he is a teeny tiny man, and was on his phone). Went to see another Film Fest movie yesterday, a nice little British flick called Cheeky. Writer/director/star David Thewlis (whom I believe is soon to be Prof. Lupin in the next Harry Potter movie) was excellent and the movie is a bittersweet comedy/drama about a man who finds he has no idea how to communicate with his sullen 13-year-old after ( Read more... )

Went to the Film Festival yesterday and saw Gale Harold's new flick Rhinoceros Eyes. It was good, a very funny black comedy (review to be forthcoming). Gale was there for the screening and someone I believe to have been Shawn Ashmore was sitting in the row behind me. Gale sat at the end of my row.
