Happy Monday

Good morning. I have to say that I was really satisfied with the Oscars last night. I thought the show moved well (granted, I FF commercials with TiVo, so that helps) and I was very pleased with the victors. Woo, Kathryn Bigelow!! I've always enjoyed her work (Point Break especially) and she was so cute up there clutching her Oscars and looking like she was going to pass out. Bless. I've always admired her for being a kick-ass action director and not doing rom-coms. Not that I don't like a good rom-com, but Kathryn broke into that boys club of action and does it so well. James Cameron did look genuinely happy for her, which is nice. I'm a sucker for exes who are still friends.

I liked Avatar okay, but I certainly didn't love it and didn't think it was best picture of the year (not by a long shot). My personal fave, A Single Man, wasn't even nominated (I sincerely think Academy voters got confused between it and A Serious Man), but I did really like The Hurt Locker. Jeff Bridges was a very deserving winner for Crazy Heart (as was the song, "The Weary Kind," which is gorgeous and so perfect for the movie). I just want to give Jeff a big hug. He's like a teddy bear. It's great that he got recognized for his career, but that the win was for a performance that really deserved it, too.

Sandra Bullock made me cry when she talked about her mother. The Precious screenwriter also made me tear up, and I loved the little sound editing man who said this Oscar was the crowning moment of his career. Mo'Nique was also very deserving, as was Christoph Waltz. I didn't love that movie (although I liked it) but he was fantastic. He and the French actress who played Shoshanna really stand out in my memory.

Was anyone else playing Spot the Former SYTYCD contestant during the dance numbers? Heh. I obviously saw Kayla and one of the guys holding up NPH at the end of his number was a popper (the one with the briefcase schtick), and I spotted Travis Wall. But the camera shots were too far away most of the time.

As far as fashion goes, off the top of my head I think Helen Mirren and Amanda Seyfried were my faves. I'd have to look at the pics to refresh my memory, but they stand out for me. I thought most people looked great. Although I didn't like Vera Farmiga's big ruffled thing. What was going on with Sarah Jessica Parker's orange face? She looked hideous on the red carpet. Stay away from the spray tan, people!

Oh, and I almost forgot to say that the John Hughes montage was lovely. Seriously, watching those clips, it was like...that's my childhood right there. I have so many memories attached to those movies, and so many memories of the movies themselves. I was so happy they used the "Then I'm 19, then I'm 20. When does my life belong to me??" bit from Some Kind of Wonderful. Even though I have issues with 16 Candles now (didn't seem so rapey when I was a kid!), that shot of Molly and Michael Schoeffling kissing over the cake still melts me.

ETA: I was wondering what the hell was going on with white lady Kanye.
