State and local races are important and do get overlooked in Presidential election years. At least, they get overlooked by the media. When I was home in Western Pa. a couple of weeks ago I saw a lot more signs in yards and along highways for state legislators than for Congress or President. Around here, in WV, it seems to be about the same, with the addition of a lot of signs for county offices (county commissioner and sheriff).
