The thing is, I've always been more partial to the Rossi episodes than I might let on. And this is no exception.
HAH. Rossi is like me. We, the people who hate quiet, and who don't quite know what to do with ourselves on unstructured vacation.
Apparently this ep was switched around in the airing order, so I will forgive the relative lack of JJ fallout. FOR NOW.
Ellie is texting Morgan on these particular subjects? From across the country. On these subjects. And they're both okay with this. O_o
Seriously, I'm dealing with the same issues with the FG right now. And we're a) flesh and blood, b) in the same college campus area. And I still angst over not being a helicopter sister. THIS DOES NOT END WELL.
Oh Colby. I'm pretty sure I called the fact of them being father and son, and yet still gasped at the actual whiteboard reveal. Well done, show, and actors.
I really liked the contrast between the two initial victims' families. The parents in total melt down, and the roommate/BF who had just exhausted that state of being, cried out and then needed to go out and get some air.
(Yeah, I'm pretty much a Hotch-obsessive at this point. But I couldn't help wanting to hug him when he was dealing with the "last words of a loved one over the phone narrated by a lunatic.")
But then: HOTCH/ROSSI. And both of them playing the sadder but wiser girls, with that experience playing out into something useful. Need to go write Kid-Verse, or something with whiskey.
Aging/Alzheimers/Fathers/Parental Issues: yeah, lemme get back to you on that. Because I'm really not into thinking about that right now, either in specific, or in abstract. :/
Except that Dan Travanti and the kid playing Colby both did heart-breakingly uncomfortable jobs. Parents can do shit like that even in control of their faculties, and it only gets worse as it goes on. Because, like they said on "Homicide" with Bayliss and his uncle: where do you put your hate, and your anxiety, and your shit that you don't want to bring out into the light?
This is how you do a Rossi episode (and what they kind of got right with Masterpiece, they especially got right here.) Don't use the ep to say how awesome Rossi was, but how far he still has to go on this road. The smiley cop, who only makes Dave feel worse.
MORGAN. GOD DAMN. IT'S LIKE TAMARA ALL OVER AGAIN. EXCEPT A) SHE'S IN CALIFORNIA, and B) SHE'S 11. I understand why he's doing it, and obviously Emily does too. BUT THIS CANNOT END WELL.
Next week: OH NOES DO NOT GO AFTER EMILY OR HOTCH WILL SMACK YOU UPSIDE THE HEAD.
