Sarah isn't big on parties, nor does she know enough people to be invited to one, but there's music and people gathering around and she's a curious sort of person. Curious enough to wander by and wander around to see what's special about today, and it's nice to see everyone gather around and have a good time, in general.
That's sorely lacking in Chicago, sometimes.
She'd been at the park, once again drawing portraits. She closes her sketchpad, slipping it under her arm as she moves closer, noticing the birthday decorations. She smirks a little, picking up one of the party favors. It's a blowout, except this is the Rift, so Sarah only has to pick it up before glittering confetti is thrown everywhere. It's caked all over her face.
Anyone walking by will be smacked with the glitter, too. Apologies!
And when she came to see what was going on and someone handed her a cupcake and told her to enjoy the party. She's not even sure who the party's for. But she'll stay because the cupcake is pretty and she likes cupcakes.
She's sat on the grass, almost hiding under the table only a few steps away from Sarah. She's picking the icing off her cupcake, and sticking her finger in her mouth to eat it.
The shower of glitter suddenly covers her legs and cupcake. "Oh.." she stares for a few minutes and then holds her up cupcake in the sunlight, watching it sparkle. "Pretty!"
"Sorry!" Sarah is quick to apologize, turning and sending Dylan a sheepish smile. She'd say these kinds of things don't happen to her often, but they sort of do. It does look pretty, and she moves a bit closer to appraise it. She wrinkles her nose and wipes at her cheek to get rid of some of the glitter from her face.
Coughing a little, since some of it nearly got into her mouth.
Charming!
"Are you the birthday girl?" Sarah asks, noting the cupcake and noting the way Dylan almost seems to be hiding. It's okay, though. She hides often, too. Sometimes too often.
Dylan smiles faintly at the other angel and waves a hand. "Noooooo, it's okay!" she holds up her cupcake to her to show, "Y-you made it prettier, see?"
She isn't very good at normal social situations, she is trying to be better at it. She's cheerful, but shy around people she's not familiar with when she's consciously trying to be normal and not make people think she's lost her mind.
So yes, almost-hiding quietly under tables it is!
She shakes her head, "Oh, no. No, not me. I'm not. I don't even know who that is. They gave me cupcakes... and said I could stay," she eats another bit of now glitter-dusted icing. "I like these cupcakes,"
"It does look really pretty. And yummy. I might snag one for myself," Sarah says in a soft whisper, almost as if she is conspiring with Dylan. Wouldn't that be something? Conspiracy involving cupcakes.
Once she's acquired a cupcake of her own, she moves back toward Dylan and nods her understanding. She seems to sense that Dylan isn't great at the social thing, and since Sarah usually isn't either, she tends to flock to those. "I don't know who it is, either. I kind of just followed the music and then I remembered I'm... really not good at hanging out at big parties."
And it does look like everyone's being drawn to it.
"Mind if I join you?" Sarah asks, still looking a bit sheepish.
Dylan grins toothily, wriggling in glee. "Oh yes! You totally s-should!" she agrees. It would be the most beautiful conspiracy ever. Also the most delicious.
"I can't really go to parties," she admits, looking down and wrinkling her nose, "It's.... it's hard when there's... demons around. But I'm.. trying to get better and stuff."
Because missing out on all the music and cupcakes actually makes her very, very sad.
"... okay," she says with a nod, shuffling along slightly and after a few moments of picking at the icing on her cupcake. "I'm Dylan,"
Sarah winks at her, not at all against partaking in this conspiracy. She lifts up her cupcake once it's been acquired and settles nearby. Not invading Dylan's personal space but close by they can sustain a conversation.
She nods in understanding. She is the opposite of judgmental, especially when it comes to Callings. "I think that's all we can do. Try to be better, little by little, every day. Has it gotten easier, do you think?"
She should not get to miss out on cupcakes! Sarah wholeheartedly agrees.
There's a smal lgrin at her acceptance, and a nod. "I'm Sarah. It's very nice to meet you, Dylan. Thank you for sharing your space with me. Otherwise I'd have to face the crowds and I suck at that."
Dylan smiles at the wink and falls silent for a while at her question. She's glad there's not judgement. There's already too much of that when it comes to some Callings.
"I think so.." she says after a long pause, "I hope I am. Getting better. Anyway. I-I haven't been on a hunt in a while... but I don't, like, really feel the urge... like I used to,"
She can't remember the last time she hunted. As well as trying to better herself, part of herself doesn't want to in fear of running into Saul. He doesn't trust her, he doesn't understand her - but he will try to stop her. And she doesn't want to fight him again.
"Sarah's a pretty name," she utters, looking down at her cupcake with a small smile, "And.. that's okay. Crowds suck. So. Um, yeah,"
Jeremy has not seen Sarah since the roller skating incident. It would have been a really awesome time if not for the whole Invasion of the Plastics. She left quickly, and he didn't get the chance to say anything before she was gone so it's pretty obvious to him that she'd been upset.
He wanted to write to her, but he didn't really know how to put it into words and then life and the Rift made him busy to say the least so he'll be glad to find her here. Jeremy does know the birthday girl, which is why he came in the first place despite the fact that school is looming ahead and he still has to figure out how to tell his sister... things.
There are a lot of emotions! BASICALLY. Story of this narration's characters' lives. Ahem. At least there was no river crying from this one.Of course, he doesn't see Sarah until after he's smacked with glitter too. Jeremy coughs up some glitter, trying to blink through the sparkly shininess of it
( ... )
Sarah almost wrote to him, too. Mostly to apologize for flouncing about something that was, ultimately, kind of petty and unimportant. But life does have a way of shoving itself in there, and today is actually the first day she's had some downtime.
"Sorry! That was...so not supposed to explode in sparkles."
Sarah is coughing up some glitter of her own, so the apology is muffled in between bits of glitter and confetti. She wrinkles her nose and sets down the party favor--slowly, hesitantly, like it may explode again.
She is still getting some of it out of her hair when she sees it's Jeremy, her expression shifting subtly.
"Jeremy! Hey. I was... too. Sorry about the... sparkling of your person."
Baw, Sarah!! The narration hearts you so much. He would have appreciated that entry, but they were both kind of awkward teenagers about it and they were busy. Jeremy's just glad he got a hold of her before school started, and he would have written her tonight if he hadn't seen her here.
So he's glad that he's seeing her in person and he can see for himself that she's okay. He still wants to punch Carter in the fais. Very much.
"It's-- uh, totally okay. Worse things have happened to me than getting sparkled."
It is a verb now. Jeremy waits until she finishes coughing, pats her back to help... get some of the sparkles out of her esophagus. They are still sparkly, because that is the kind of sparkles that require washing off.
He smirks at her, shaking his head. "It's cool. Really. I know you wouldn't sparkle me on purpose," Jeremy says and then he hesitates a moment. "So look are you sure you're okay? I wanted to write to you to ask you that, but Chicago got... all Chicago like. You just left. Fast."
Sarah still has the urge to wring a few Barbie necks herself.
"I don't know. I'm not totally incapable of not sparkling you, but it was definitely not on purpose this time," she says, mostly to break the ice so to speak, even if there really isn't any... ice to break. Or something.
She looks up at his question and smiles a bit, apologetic but earnest in the gesture.
"I'm fine," she says, and this time there is no wincing. Though she does look a bit sheepish as she tucks a strand of hair over her ear, keeping her sketchpad tucked to her side, as well. "I overreacted and then I felt really bad for just leaving you there... pizza-less. I was going to write you to apologize but I... am not really good at the whole words department. But I am good. Promise."
And she criss-crosses her heart with her index finger as if emphasizing the point.
"I don't... really know," she says, scratching the back of her head, still a bit sheepish. "It sounded a lot better in my head than it did once it was out of my mouth. Perhaps that needed some thought process
( ... )
"Maybe it did or... maybe you were subconsciously trying to warn me," Jeremy says with a small smile. "Obviously, you have a thing with... sparkling people, and I should watch out."
There is likely some reason out there. Somewhere. They thought they could use some more shine. They wanted someone to look like Edward Cullen. Reasons exist!
"I know. It's how... I kind of figured that you weren't really okay. You left so fast and before I could say anything, but it's... cool. It really is. Just as long as you're okay," he says with a small smile as he looks down at her. "I didn't mind. I don't care what they say about me. People used to say stuff about me that was true and so I guess... I don't know. After that, the lies don't mean as much for me. I just hate that they treat you that way
( ... )
"That sounds a lot better than what I would've come up with," Sarah says with a small laugh. "I'll take it!"
You never know. There might just be. Now the narration wants her to save someone via sparkling. Blinding an evil ruffian so that others may escape!
"I'm okay now. And... you're okay too, right?" she asks, looking at him carefully. It's not that he doesn't look okay, but... words. " She looks up at him--seriously, Jeremy, why so tall--as he speaks, sticking one hand in the back pocket of her jeans. "Ah, I know. And it's cool to have someone sticking up for me but let's just ignore them. I've decided the complete indifference to them would spite them more than anything else."
They want those kinds of reactions and by not giving it to them, they should be winning by default. Of course, that's the mature thing to do and she kind of forgets in the moment, but. Details!
"I have some AP classes," Sarah admits with a nod, not looking too enthused about it. She's the daughter of an ambitious AoK, that's sort of a given, but it's
