It is a beautiful, bright and sunny day in Chicago, and Shawn couldn't be more pleased with the weather.
Planning an outdoor party always involves taking a risk that way, and Shawn had taken precautions for it, but thankfully the skies were clear, and while there is a bit of a breeze, it's not so strong that it's blowing everything away. It may change later, but for right now, this is awesome. Besides, Shawn doesn't like thinking too far in advance anyway. It keeps you from focusing on the now.
Upon arrival to the gathering in Grant Park, the first thing you're always going to notice is the giant wiener mobile. It's rather hard to miss, especially when decked out with happy birthday decorations that he and Anne had picked up when they went shopping all over Chicago the day before. Shawn is in front of that wiener mobile, adjusting the decorations as he minds the grill. It's smaller than the one on the mobile, but it's meant to handle more than just hot dogs, which is what he needs at the moment. He's flipping some burgers of various types -- turkey, veggie, possibly even salmon. On the table next to him is an assortment of condiments and burger dressings, as well as chips, pretzels and a giant sheet cake for later, when the birthday girl got there. At the end of the food table is an industrial sized cooler with drinks, mostly soda, but later in the day, Shawn will bring out the stuff that's a little stronger.
Parker had helped him obtain some of the other stuff that you couldn't really find in a party store -- speakers for the music, chairs and tables for people to sit and eat, with a tent over it to provide a little shade. He wouldn't say they stole them -- it is more like they borrowed, because he intends to give them back -- but they are definitely out of his price range. However, with the permit he managed to obtain to have the party, they shouldn't be getting any trouble.
Shouldn't being the operative word.
Otherwise, there is a nice wide open space for people to mix, mingle, talk, and maybe even dance if they felt so inclined. The speakers were blaring the best of the eighties. As far as Shawn is concerned, he'd be worried if they didn't feel like dancing.
