Lena Austen lost her cross necklace a few hours ago. She doesn't think of herself as a materialistic person. The necklace means something to her. That's why she is crouched beside a bench in Grant Park, looking for said necklace in the grass. She must've dropped it there while she was running. Running from who? She'll never tell ( Read more... )

Lucky Spencer has already had a few adventures in Chicago thanks to his very first adventure that got him mixed up with one, Lena Austen and consequently the crew at the Crowbar. He is feeling more alive and like himself than he has in over a year.

There is nothing at all that could have prepared him for seeing Lena in a wedding dress facing... Godzilla. He has to fight back the urge to shift into a fox, because he's worried and a little scared. IT'S GODZILLA. He thinks in this situation he's allowed to feel some fear. His adventures on this side of the Rift have yet to involve any actual monsters, and she is slow at getting that gun out thanks to the dress so he pulls out his.

He aims and fires, hitting the side of its neck.

Some of the guts from the monster fly off and... probably hit them both. He is wiping blood from his face as he runs to her side. "Not exactly the honeymoon I would have picked, but this isn't the first time we've disagreed." He almost smiles, aiming that gun at the monster again.

She was supposed to meet him half an hour ago. At least now she can say she has a legitimate excuse for being late.

The dress is slowing her down, and the fact she keeps looking for the necklace quickly while she moves. Lena rips off the hemline, tearing off scraps of it until it's all but a mini-skirt. She was wearing combat boots underneath the dress. She's all class, clearly. She smirks back at him and brings herself back to her feet. "You're so picky. Not everyone can afford the Bahamas."

The guts splatter onto her chest and in the process, ruin the upper part of the wedding gown. "You always have to spill something on my dresses, don't you?"

Lena takes a step back and aims toward any vital organ she can get within shot range. While the shots slow it down, they also piss him off. "... Time to run."

Pff, godzillas are not legitimate excuses... except where they completely are.

Lucky glances over at her at the sound of the ripping and tearing of the scraps of the dress off. He can't keep from smiling at the sight of those combat boots. Very classy. Very Lena to pull a David. "I know it's rare to expect to not be chased down by a giant dinosaur on your honeymoon, but I like the finer things in life."

He winces at the splatter. It was a... really nice gown before it got torn into bits and sprayed on by monster guts. "Always accidentally. I think this... must be a sign that you shouldn't wear dresses unless you want me to spill something on them."

Yeah, the fear of the giant monster mentioned earlier? It's gone up a notch or two when the monster gets pissed. "Running," he says as he takes off in the opposite direction, fighting that urge to turn into a fox again. He does not want more naked adventures.

"Where's your sense of adventure, sweet pea?" Lena asks lightly, knocking over a trash can and grabbing a hold of the metal lid. The monster gets close enough she knocks his paw off by smashing the lid onto its fist. She finally catches sight of the necklace, silver glinting in between trodden leaves. "At least it'd be a honeymoon you'd never forget."

Lena dives over to catch it just before she starts sprinting.

"Or maybe it's a sign you need better aim," she says innocently, stopping in her tracks once she notices the dead end street. She looks both left and right, quick on her feet, opening up the dumpster. It is thankfully empty.

She lifts up the lid and motions for Lucky to come over. "Get your butt in here."

"I think I left it somewhere back around my sense of preservation," Lucky says, just as lightly, aiming his gun at the monster again. He has his doubts about another bullet making an impact. Lucky fires, and it blows off more skin and guts.

He glances at Lena when she dives to the side, unaware of what she's grabbed, and there's a godzilla or he might ask.

"What? No. It would if I ever was aiming at anything when it happens. I never aim. They're accidents," Lucky says, stopping behind her as he is human and doesn't run as fast.

Lucky stares when she lifts up the lid, motioning for him to get in the trashcan. You've got to be kidding me. Is this really happening right- The roar behind him interrupts his disbelief, and he runs, climbing into the trashcan.

"This is not as surprising as it should be," he mutters, voice shaky. But it is really terrifying. He is battling the urge to shift as he grabs her arm to help pull her in after him.

"I'm not going to stop wearing dresses because your hands are clumsy!" Lena says, placing the cross's chain around her neck once more once they've stopped. Or rather, she has stopped and is waiting for him to catch up.

She doesn't fight the pull, jumping in quickly after him and closing the lid of the trash can. Her heart is beating wildly in her chest, and she isn't fighting a shift so much as fighting the wings itching to slide out from her shoulder blades.

"It's totally not my fault this time, at least? ... That's not helpful."

There is utter silence in the minutes that follow, and her fingers curl into the sleeve of his shirt as she waits. "Maybe it's gone?"

Spoiler: no, it is not. They'll find themselves being picked up by its paw and shaken like a polaroid picture.

"My hands aren't--" He glances at them, one is still holding tightly to that gun. "I think you should consider it! They only seem to be clumsy when... you're in a dress."

Lucky does not want to examine why that is. It may be for no reason at all. After all, twice does not mean his hands are always clumsy around her dresses. It's a... good thing that they are running from godzilla right now.

"You're right." He says with a small smile, sincerely. "It's not really helpful but I appreciate... that we're possibly seconds away from death and you're trying."

He is about to answer her when they're lifted into the air, and he ends up yelling out instead. Terror grips his chest, and he can't breathe, and he can't-- "I'm not-- I can't stop this from--" Bones are shifting painfully, faster than the first time but still slow. Where Lucky once was, there is a fox, tangled up in clothes and rolling around the trashcan with no way to hold on to anything.

Lena does consider it, while ensuring the hemline of the dress is entirely ripped. She also chooses to be particularly helpful in his refusal to examinate. "You know, Lucky, if you want me out of my dresses, all you have to do is say so," Lena says innocently, tying the strap of her boot before standing back up.

"We're not dying," she says very seriously. It's one thing to tease him when he's being ornery. It's another to tease him when he's scared. She'd never do that. "I've been in worse scrapes before. These kinds of things? Fall through the Rift all the time. They're big, yeah, but they're dumb ( ... )

Lucky bites down on his lip in an attempt to keep the smile off of it at her 'innocent' suggestion. "I will keep that in mind," he says and then shakes his head, fighting embarrassment and amusement. He has kind of gotten used to Lena's comments at this point. "I can't believe you figured out my plan from the start."

He is trying to not be terrified, because it's not helpful at all to be this scared, but holy shit Godzilla. "Yes, they're dumb, but they're big too, and I think that by nature of being smashed, it would be easy to die in this... scenario."

Lucky grabs hold of her hand when she reaches, tightening his hold on her hand. He is trying, trying to fight against the urge to shift, and it's not working.

"I'm trying, Lena. I'm not--" He doesn't want to die, and he hates that his immediate reaction instead of breaking free or praying or something is to become a fox.

They are falling and falling. Lucky is hardly aware that he is falling, because he remembers being in darkness... deep deep loud darkness tumbling tumbling ( ... )

Lena will be sad the day Lucky isn't at least mildly embarrassed whenever she intends to fluster him, it's true. She lifts a brow when he mentions her finding out his plan, and glances back down at her ruined dress. "It's not like subtlety has been your strong suit."

"Yes, but we won't. We won't. Trust me, okay?" she asks, and she doesn't blame him at all for being terrified. She'd be more terrified if it wasn't for the fact she's lived in Chicago for two years already ( ... )

"Okay," Lucky says, and he winces but he means the words that he says. "I trust you." He has no idea how he can trust her when she says that they won't die and still be terrified. The thought of severe injury is equally frightening.

Okay, the monster itself is scary whether or not, it ends up killing them. There is a lot of reason to be afraid in this scenario, despite the fact that he does trust her.

He looks at her when she tells him to or he tries to look at her. It's difficult to see in the dark of the trash can, but he can make out her features in the thin light that slides through the openings in the lid above them. If they could see each other, she would see his shiny shiny eyes. COUGH. Daw, Lucky, the narration loves you for srs. Ahem. Lucky can't imagine getting used to this, but he'll have to if he intends on staying ( ... )

OH MY GOD THAT FOX IS ADORABLE.

It's possible Lena's small howl is even weaker and more pathetic. Her heart's beating too quickly. Her bones hurt when she tries to stand. There is no fur to shield her and she already gets colder than most people do. It's twelve degrees outside.

Twelve degrees and her clothes are nowhere in sight. That she can see, anyway.

All she knows is she is freezing and miserable and doesn't want to move or wants to move too quickly and without any planned direction. She shakes and shivers uncontrollably, curling into herself and leaning against Lucky's fur.

Another pitiful whimper and she's hiding under Lucky's fur.

...The narration only hopes, for Lucky's sake so he does not suffer more humiliation, there is no shifting in the next five minutes.

OH MY GOD THAT PUP IS ADORABLE.

It's the sound of the small howl that draws the fox to Lena's side. The pathetic, weak sound makes his little fox heart call out! Where is the dog? It follows the sound and then flops down beside her.

It is much too cold outside, and there is no easy way to get warm. The fox looks around as the puppy curls under cold, wet fur. There has to be something that's warmer somewhere. His gaze darts around and never really settles on anything.

The fox stands up and nips at the pup's ear. Follow me! Follow me! I will lead us to warmth! Your ear is in my mouth so you should listen to me!

...yeah Lucky is metaly, REALLY hoping there is not a shift imminent for either of them right about now.

But the imagery that this is providing the narration with is hilarious. Naked!Lucky biting a puppy ear. Naked!Lena having her ear bit by a fox. Or... ahem.

The puppy's ears lift themselves up in alert stiffness. The puppy does not like being bitten. The puppy is stubborn and doesn't want to move from its spot, much less being prodded away from it.

Puppy pulls away while Lena's brain starts kicking into overdrive. She sprints away as fast as her legs take her. She's normally fast, and in puppy form that's only doubly true.

The puppy wants warmth but Lena wants necklace. She turns and turns and looks for any visible trace of clothes. Once she finds them she places them at the edge of the water before swimming back into it. She does not resurface until she is already back in human form and with the necklace in her grip.

"Lucky?" she asks through chattering teeth. Her hands tighten their hold on the necklace as she crawls back out the water, coughing up some of it as she goes.

The concern grows once the shapeshifting brain is fully gone and it's only Lena. "Lucky?"

The fox is so confused. Why does the puppy not like his lovebite that is trying to lead her to freedom and warmth? Why is the puppy rejecting him? He is only trying to take care of her, be a pal, do things that are good! He likes the scent of the puppy. It is good and friendly, and he wants to help.

He tries chasing after the puppy, but he can't keep up with her. The puppy is much faster than the fox, and the fox lets out another pitiful sound, very confused and lonely. Where did the puppy go?

Into the water?

What if she drowns?

The fox dives into the water, and the shock of it has Lucky shifting back into a human. He drags himself out of the water and back on to the ground. Where did Lena go? He starts searching around, picking up cardboard to hold over his manly bits... ahem. Lucky is down further on land when he hears her voice ( ... )

Lena breathes a sigh of relief at the sound of his voice. She waits until he's wrapped the blanket around himself to lean forward, giving him a quick hug. "Not the time to complain about the state of the blanket," she agrees, stepping back and bringing herself to her feet.

"So what you're saying is being naked inside is--" she stops herself, almost ruefully. "Won't go there now ( ... )
