Kashtta Tower - Outside - Someone wants answers...

They gave him his job back.

Considering they didn't usually get mechanics of his caliber, he hadn't really been worried, but it made matters a lot less difficult. That said, the trip'd been... necessary.

Because it wasn't there.

His house, the house he'd raised his boys in, the house he'd bought with Mary, it wasn't there. He'd thought, hell, ( Read more... )

The thing about the Kashtta that's... probably pretty nice for John is that there are civilians living in the dorms. Which means that they come and go a lot, because otherwise what are they going to do all day, watch movies and play video games?

...Okay, well, that might be what Mat and Nate do most days, but still, they have small social lives. Mattie, for instance, is on his way out to walk to the Conrad to see Grace. He's bundled up and everything, against the cold, but even so, it's pretty easy to tell his shoulders are hunched against more than the cold, and the little bit of his face that can be seen is very sad. A little broken.

He's almost past John's car when he registers it and bends down to peer in the window. Oh, look, John. An uncomfortably familiar face!

A familiar face. That gets him a short nod and a tip of his head to the back of the car.

Then he picked lightly at his coat.

Did the kid want his clothes back?

...of course, that wasn't why he was here, but he could spin it that way.

Mat had forgotten about the whole clothes-lending thing, and honestly, it isn't like they really need them back or anything. Mat shrugs and taps the window, then jerks his thumb back to the Tower.

Does John want to come inside where it isn't twelve fucking degrees without wind chill? Mattie can put off his visit to Grace for a little while.

He looked around for a moment before nodding, reaching into his back seat to get the folded clothes.

He climbs out, still wincing at the coat he's got on. He'd tried to find something in the Salvation Army brand of coat, but none of them had been made with enough quality to warrant spending on, so he'd had to get a new leather jacket. It was new, though, and he hadn't worked the leather down to being comfortable and he was reminded of it, reminded of where he was and how he was a fish out of water, every time he bent. He figured it'd go away soon enough, but that didn't make it stop bothering him.

"How you been, son?" he asked as he shut the door with a thump.

There are some people who just need to meet.

For this reason, walking down the street past the building, heavily bundled, is a lithe female figure holding coffee in one hand. At the wrist of her other hand is the unmistakable bulge of a wrist sheath with a knife in it.

She moves, and acts, like a hunter - careful, noting every face and car, studying them for hidden menace.

Papa Winchester is not exempt from this scrutiny.

And he looked right back at her, head lifting just a little in something that's part invitation, part request for parlay, and part warning.

Faith's lips curl up in a slight smile, and she inclines her head slightly in greeting.

He's got balls. She approves.

She slows down as she approaches his car, giving him the chance to hail her if he wants to.

This is going to be a very interesting encounter.

He doesn't hail so much as roll the window down. If she wanted to come over and talk, she could, but he wasn't leaving the car just yet.

There are a few things that will make a guardian angel very twitchy. Having someone who may or may not be a psychopath they've already had to deal with once in the same building as their ward is one. Having someone they don't know in an unmarked car SCOPING OUT THEIR WARD'S BUILDING is another.

So after about fifteen minutes of this, during which Andy unsuccessfully tried to convince herself that she was being irrational and all the evidence she could see contradicted that, she slipped out her wings, slipped on a coat, and walked straight across the street to tap on John's window.

Have a tiny 5'2" angel, John.

He looked up, pretending to be startled as if he'd just been staring out in thought as opposed to watching as he was, and rolled down the window.

"Ma'am?"

Uh-huh. See, the thing about having a father and older sister who are both in special ops and almost pulled you in with them is that you develop a finely-hones sense of situational paranoia.

Human. Wanderer. She can tell that much, with her wings out, but unfortunately they don't tell her what he's DOING there.

"A bit unusual to sit around in a car when it's seventeen degrees outside, isn't it?" She crosses her arms, partially to convey a point and partially because, well, seventeen degrees is really quite cold. "Did you need something?"

"Waitin' for someone," he said as if it was the most normal thing in the world. For him, this kind of weather was normal enough. And he'd sat in worse waiting for this or that evil son of a bitch to come out for him to follow.
