Kashtta Tower - Outside - Someone wants answers...

They gave him his job back.

Considering they didn't usually get mechanics of his caliber, he hadn't really been worried, but it made matters a lot less difficult. That said, the trip'd been... necessary.

Because it wasn't there.

His house, the house he'd raised his boys in, the house he'd bought with Mary, it wasn't there. He'd thought, hell, who knows what he'd thought? But driving down that street and seeing an entirely different place than what ought to be there? It'd gutted him. He'd thought he was beyond pain, bein' the way he was, but that'd clear gutted him. He'd gone straight to the library (and thank goodness that was still what it was supposed to be) and he'd started in on research and-- no. It'd never been there. The house on that plot was the one that'd been there for fourty years.

It'd been hard to drive back to Chicago, to go back to his crappy hotel room. Usually, he only saw a place once or twice in as many years. Now, though, it was looking as if he'd be there for the long haul, or at least until he saved up enough for a real apartment.

That was why he was sitting outside of the building in his car, staking the place out, waiting to see if there was anyone familiar coming in or out of the place.

John needed answers. And he needed to figure out a way to get back.
