Kashtta Tower - Outside - Someone wants answers...

They gave him his job back.

Considering they didn't usually get mechanics of his caliber, he hadn't really been worried, but it made matters a lot less difficult. That said, the trip'd been... necessary.

Because it wasn't there.

His house, the house he'd raised his boys in, the house he'd bought with Mary, it wasn't there. He'd thought, hell, ( Read more... )

There are some people who just need to meet.

For this reason, walking down the street past the building, heavily bundled, is a lithe female figure holding coffee in one hand. At the wrist of her other hand is the unmistakable bulge of a wrist sheath with a knife in it.

She moves, and acts, like a hunter - careful, noting every face and car, studying them for hidden menace.

Papa Winchester is not exempt from this scrutiny.

And he looked right back at her, head lifting just a little in something that's part invitation, part request for parlay, and part warning.

Faith's lips curl up in a slight smile, and she inclines her head slightly in greeting.

He's got balls. She approves.

She slows down as she approaches his car, giving him the chance to hail her if he wants to.

This is going to be a very interesting encounter.

He doesn't hail so much as roll the window down. If she wanted to come over and talk, she could, but he wasn't leaving the car just yet.

Good enough.

Faith stops in front of the car, looks at him, looks at the building, and then looks back at him.

"I've seen horror movies that started like this."

If he wasn't John Winchester, he almost would have laughed. His life was a horror movie, after all.

"I don't know if that's a warning or an insult," he said after a moment.

So's Faith's. They're totally BFF. Or something.

"Neither. Curiosity, mostly. I'm new here, I don't really know all the goings-on yet...bit of a wanderer, y'know?"

Yes, Faith is dropping unsubtle hints to see if he'll react. Subtle is not her thing.

"Same here," he said, and she could take that however she wanted to.

"Where you come from? Sounds like... Boston? Just a guess."

Faith nods, impressed. "Good ear. Southie, born and raised. Lived there until I was 18, then moved out to California and then Cleveland. Which is where I was when this place happened."

Faith sips her coffee, making a face at the snow.

"Could be worse, I guess. At least this world doesn't have vampires."

Did we mention that subtle isn't her thing?

"We got rid of most of ours," he said, figuring she was some sort of hunter. He didn't know what kind, or why she'd gotten into it, but a show of faith called for another and if she was fucking with him, he could say it was a joke.

"Really? That must be nice. In my world they're like fucking cockroaches. Vampires, zombies, werewolves, demons with paralyzing snot..."

"Zombies are another matter. Werewolves, well... you do what you have to."

Beat.

"Paralyzing snot?"

"I used tranqs for werewolves when I can, but sometimes you can't save 'em. And yeah, snot. Shoots out of the nostrils and sets like concrete. Really nasty stuff."

Faith offers him the not-holding-coffee hand, for shaking purposes. "I'm Faith."

"Generally, I use coffee, but I figure werewolves are a little different where I... was," he said before taking the hand and giving a firm shake.

"John. I'd invite you in, but I figure it'd look bad for both of us."

Faith snickers at that, returning the shake; she has very strong hands for a woman (or for anyone, really), calloused and scarred. "Yeah, I think that's illegal even here in Bizarre-O World. Appreciate the thought, though. So what are you after in that building?"

"Looking for answers.

"And the best place to find them is at the beginning."

Besides, he'd seen enough answers back in Kansas. Best he started looking here.
