The side of the ship where the iceberg rips

Eloi is half-asleep on a couch in the common room, and today, he has his wings out. He usually does not put himself in a position to be caught off-guard, such as the one he is in now (he's having a good deal of trouble simply keeping his eyes open); however, the nightmares he's experienced ever since he was fourteen have intensified recently. Ever since he'd informed the hotel-through his journal-of the reasons for his paranoia and compulsions, in point of fact.

He's using one of his coping methods to deal with it: though it can barely be heard, he's softly singing to himself. His choice of songs seems rather odd, however, given his history:

"Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down, darkness be over me... My rest a stone, yet in my dreams I'd be nearer, my God, to Thee..."
