what has been going on?

recently, work like doom. a buffer overflow lab for computer security encountered... forgetting of everything i ever learned in 213, and thus huge time overhead. this week is made of in-class finals and final projects, though this is somewhat better than my original understanding of the same amount of doom compressed into half that time. following this i have an empty week in which to cavort.

surrounding this my ever-exciting adventures with food continue. some things even as simple as baking chicken are slightly mysterious, but i am progressing. my crowning achievement of the last month was having one of my vegetarian housemates try a bite of some veal i made...apparently he does something similar about once a year, but still. veal is good with sage and a merlot sauce, okay? also mashed potatoes and baby spinach.

before that...i had a birthday where i received a scarf and some firey bits, and thanksgiving with parents. for thanksgiving i had grand plans to bake the turkey at 450° for a shorter time so as to avoid the overcooked joy of my youth, but i woke up about a half hour too late to enact them. ah, home is good, but so very home. i did, however, rescue our gravy. little steps...little steps.

and before that, i found a tree in my dining room one day. at night, if you're sitting around and it's quiet, you sometimes hear the patter of a fallen leaf.

really what i want is an excuse to make gloriously perfectionist seasonally-appropriate cookies in shapes like stars and christmas trees, but really i don't. perhaps next week i shall bake a pear cake.
