The Väinämöinen Clan Shopping Excursion

Old habits (and cold stiff joints) woke Berwald in conjunction with the sunrise. He had slept better, the floor was hard and cold, but Nukka was curled up on him for warmth and snoring... like an old man. Berwald chuckled as he slowly sat up and perched his glasses back on his nose again. Tino was still on the edge of the bed, Hana predictably on ( Read more... )

"That's okay, we'll know exactly which ones came from you." Mummi teased. It would stand to reason that Berwald wouldn't be able to wrap well, he hadn't given anyone a wrapped present in years if he'd ever had to wrap one at all.

Tino of course spotted Berwald towering over the other people in the food court and waved to him and held up a plastic shopping bag excitedly. When they'd finally gotten close enough Tino gushed to his boyfriend. "We're spoiling the dogs rotten this year. That store had the cutest toys ever for Hana and even toys for Nukka too." He smiled, showing off the toys and even the harness they'd gotten for Hana that looked similar to a little pink sundress.

Berwald looked at the bag full of Pink and grinned. "I've corrupted you. I knew I'd convert you to the Cute Side my padawan learner." Berwald joked as he scanned the food court and Berwald gravitated toward Hesberger's which looked like a Finnish version of an American burger joint... Even Berwald was hard pressed to finish the sandwich he was served:

The food came in such huge servings. Tino sometimes wondered if Hesberger was taking serving size advice from American eateries.

Tino and Mummi ended up ordering one sandwich and splitting it in half between themselves. "Yes, you've corrupted me. Though I still stand by my assessment of the pink carrier." He smiled, licking a dab of mayo off his thumb. "I don't know if you can ever change my opinion of that. And for the record, the dress if for cute times and picture taking times. Her and me are still going to have tom-boy times. We're going to be your two mud monsters." He chortled.

"Yes, but you bought PINK... you're seeing the value of cute." Berwald laughed getting up to throw their trash away. "All that is left are pillows and bedding and we can head home." Berwald said as everyone headed toward a linen store.

Mummi chuckled as Tino's ears turned pink. Ouch. Berwald had won that argument.

Once at the store for linens Mummi noticed Tino looking a little too hard at satin sheets and she pipped up. "You should look for fleece and flannel. It'll be warmer for Peikko." She whispered to her grandson. She didn't bring his staring at the satin sheets to anyone else's attention, but she did just chuckled as he turned pink in the face. "Sorry." He whispered. "Busted?"

"Super busted." She smiled back and took one of his arms and let him lead her back to the rest of the group like a true gentleman. "You won't blab?"

"I don't need to blab. I know as much as you do. My crystal ball tells me so." She winked and sent Tino into a fit of giggles. "I knew it." He teased right back. "You are a witch that uses black magic."

Berwald gravitated to the Jersey cotton sheets, the got softer and softer like your favorite t-shirt the more you used them. They were warm, but breathed and felt so nice on the skin. Tino's bedroom had blue walls with a white wainscoting, the bed was white so Berwald searched for a palette of white and blue to match the room already.

He showed Tino his selections, just white sheets, they would "hide" moments spent being lovers and could be bleached when washed. He also chose a white dual control electric blanket. Tino could control his side so Berwald didn't roast him like a lobster at a clam bake in Maine. But then it came to several nice choices for a duvet covers all in blue hues to match the room. Berwald let Tino choose his favorite, he wasn't bothered, the duvet going into the cover was white and WARM that was all Berwald cared about really. Let Tino choose the cover he favored.

Picking out sheets. Damn it made Tino feel like an old married couple already. But in a really good way. They had kind of escalated from 'playing house' to kind of just... 'house'. But it wasn't until he'd come home to Finland with Berwald that he realized just how far the escalation had gone. While looking at the duvets Berwald had tasked him to pick one of the small Fin contemplated the full meaning of it. He and Berwald weren't 'playing' anything. They were as together as his äiti and his isä were. They may have been 'boyfriends' but they did everything that spouses did. Some little bit of Tino's heart swelled when he thought of this. "I like this one." Tino said, picking up the lightest one. "Our walls are kind of a medium blue and our carpet's a dark blue, so this will look best with them." IT FELT SO DAMN GOOD TO SAY 'our' INSTEAD OF 'my' even here in Finland!

"Ja, I like that too." Berwald said adding it to their cart, they bought new king size pillows too. Berwald opting for a really firm one and Tino the squishy soft one, they'd never mix up their pillows that was for sure.

The van was FULL as they headed home and the boys got right to work dismantling Tino's old twin and getting it up in the attic guest room and rearranging clothes to make Berwald space in the dresser and wardrobe for his clothes alongside Tino's.

They were all in the middle of dinner naturally when the delivery arrived and Berwald spent that time assembling their bed.

He was a force to be reckoned with when it came to Allen wrenches and IKEA instructions... even if the instructions were in Finnish. He barely looked at them anyway.

Tino inhale what was left of his meal and took Berwald's plate up with him to the room so the Swede could eat at intervals between setting the frame together. Tino helped where he was asked to, but mostly he sat down in his desk chair and watched, trying to stay out of the way lest he get screwed to the frame himself somehow.

"It looks great Honey-Bear." He smiled, resting his chin on the back of the chair and smiling. "I'm looking forward to bedtime tonight." He grinned when Berwald had finally finished and handed him his plate again. He'd make the bed himself. Berwald had assembled it after all, he could get the sheets on it.

"I hope that's innuendo." Berwald said waggling his eyebrows at Tino with a smirk as he got the platform attached to the headboard and in position.

Tino helped move the heavy mattress onto place on the platform and Berwald took that time to finish his cold now dinner while Tino tossed their sheets on the bed.

"That looks nice in here. Takes up more of your floor, but then you're not six anymore needing floor space for matchbox cars." Berwald grinned as the "little boy's room" turned into "Grown up Boy plus one" Room.

Berwald picked up the moomin plushie off the floor in the corner and when Tino was finished making the bed, he placed it between the pillows.

"Still and always young at heart" Berwald grinned as they headed back downstairs to finish the evening with Family, and go shovel the drive before it got too dark to see.

Berwald still hated the cold, but he wasn't so much of a Popsicle now.

"We need to go out tomorrow and you have to help me buy for your parents and Mummi." Berwald said as he hefted snow.

"Yeah. At least it's not the very last minute." Tino added, using the shovel to beat some of the icicles down. No he was not afraid of the idea of one coming crashing down on him. He'd done this a hundred times.

"And my parents are easily pleased. We're well to do, but we have such poor-people taste in things." He laughed, trying to climb back over the snow bank he had scaled to read the edges of the roof. "WHOA!" There was a weak spot of snow and he sank right down to his belly in it. "Perkele I have snow up the legs of my pains." He whined but laughed anyway.

For a nano second time STOPPED for Berwald and his heart exploded in fear and then it was gone, Tino was not hurt, just stuck... and stuck good. Berwald couldn't help but laugh as he sauntered over.

"Let's see... do I dig you out? Or ransom the rescue? What will you give me if I spin this straw into gold and set you free from snow drifts?" Berwald asked (but not waiting to start digging his beloved free anyway.)

"I'll do the mouth thing." He teased, sticking his tongue out at Berwald as he was being dug out. "I'm not a damsel in distress, just... ... a fella is a tight spot." He snickered, that was certainly more masculine!

"Trust me... I'm rather GLAD you're not a damsel. I like your plumbing SOOOOOO much better." Berwald chuckled leaning into steal a kiss as he continued to dig his lover free.

"If I wasn't so chivalrous, I'd have thought to take a picture of you like this before rescuing you. Damn."

Just a few more handfuls ans Tino was able to wriggle free. "Alright? Noting hurts I hope." Berwald asked as Tino shimmied and stamped snow out of his pants.

"No, nothing hurts, I'm just cold as hell!" He chuckled, dancing around trying to get snow clumps out. "And you could have taken a picture and I would have still considered it a valiant rescue attempt." He laughed, finishing his little dance in order to go back to digging the last few feet of snow away with Berwald, but of course taking a bold chance and giving the giant a swat on the ass when he passed by.

"What happened to my bashful, blushing Buttercup? You've gotten downright SAUCY! I think I've been a corruptible influence on you... Hallelujah." Berwald grinned quite enjoying the fact Tino was bold as brass and no longer shy to give as good as he got.

"Go on inside and get in a bath Askling. Warm up and get out of those pants before you catch a cold. I'll finish up here and be in shortly to scrub your back." Berwald said shooing Tino into the house.
