Huzzah! I felt bad for little Tsuba. Momo's my second character and was getting all the limelight...but I was talking to Ki-chan and got inspired. Here's a little drabble about chibi-Tsuba and her good ol' Uncle Kensaki.
Polished Steel
Visits from Uncle Kensaki were rare, but Tsuba treasured them above all of her other relatives.
Her aunts all wanted her to dance for them, no matter how many times she told them with a ducked head and red cheeks that well, she hadn't really learned how to dance…just fight. And her other uncles gave her a pat on the head, might ask her to show them a new technique she was working on, then would pat her on the head again and move on.
But Uncle Kensaki…he actually paid attention to her. He would spend hours working with her. Perfecting the movements and chakra control. And he would show her such amazing things! Tsuba couldn't believe how strong he was.
He even laughed and flashed her a grin when she told him she wanted to be just like when him she grew up. Her parents were not quite so thrilled at the exclamation.
There was only one thing Tsuba couldn't understand. Sure, she couldn't get her chakra and body to do all of the things Uncle Kensaki could, but he kept telling her to practice. He didn't learn them all in one day, either.
Tsuba couldn't understand why her family disliked him so much.
What wasn't there to like? He smiled at her, spent time with her, was amazing with a katana, and he even brought her presents sometimes. He served the country, apparently he was a high rank in Anbu. Tsuba couldn't manage to coerce him to tell her what exactly he did in Anbu, but she was sure it was all grand tasks.
Her mother had mumbled in a harsh tone for a moment when Tsuba had gotten the nerve to ask. Even when her mother had crouched and said comprehendible words Tsuba couldn't understand it.
"We don't want you to associate with him anymore, Tsu-chan. He does terrible things and we don't want you tainted."
Terrible things? All of her family were ninjas - just like Uncle Kensaki. How was he terrible? He spoke of Anbu with pride. People didn't speak highly of bad things. Tsuba knew that had to be true.
Tainted? Tsuba had frowned at that. Uncle Kensaki seemed clean enough. He smelled clean when she stood next to him. Even when he crouched down behind her and corrected her stance on a few occasions.
He had smelled of polished steel - yes, that was it.
When he had stopped by the last time, she had been trying desperately to execute a back flip from standing. And he had helped her. Even caught her when she was going to land on her head or just not land on her feet. And when she had done it correctly, she had turned to his crouched figure and latched onto him, pressing her face to his chest.
Sweet polished steel.
Edit: Yup, cutting scenes again.
