Caving into the Cold

Feb 15, 2009 01:53

Living in this house is like living in a house constructed out of only single-pane glass. The air from outside comes through pretty easily, and I don't have any window coverings on them right now.

Anyway, it's been so cold that I've finally caved...and traded in my down-alternative comforter for a down comforter (depending on how well it works or doesn't work, that down-alternative comforter may need to be reintroduced to my current bedding). It's mid-weight, not heavy, but I actually looked for a heavyweight one when I was at the store because I am THAT cold. It's not the top-of-the-line, but it will serve its purpose (I hope). I also got a microfleece blanket to use on my bed. So now I have the following layers...and yet, I still wear a big sweatshirt and sweatpants to bed:

- down comforter (covered with a duvet cover)
- microfleece blanket
- cotton blanket
- flat sheet
I have another extra cotton coverlet/blanket on top of all that...but Sophie is using it right now (hey, she has fur, but she gets cold too because she's a giant baby...and I let her on my bed because she's a heating block in the wintertime).

Despite having to cave, though, I've been secretly looking forward to bedtime all afternoon because I also got myself a new duvet cover set (light blue) which coordinates with my brown bed skirt right now. Heh. And two new pillows to put into shams from that duvet cover set. My bed is looking pretty fluffy right now, and I have to admit that it looks really inviting...we'll see just how warm I am tonight!

glorious sleep, good things, domestic goddess within, project on the plate, unexpected photographs, weekends, maintenance, frivolous purchases, new digs
