At the end of the world, Jack's got a choice to make. He can stay and fight beside Gwen and Ianto, or he can go and fight beside the Doctor.
As it turns out he doesn't make a decision so much as do what he does best; he follows his heart.
He wants to feel guilty for leaving them, but doesn't.
Until the Doctor arrived none of them had any hope. Now they do. Fighting for the Doctor is fighting for hope, and hope's the only thing that's ever really worth fighting for.
Besides, Jack'll be back.
