One Piece 579
Well, I spent the night before last vomiting or waiting to vomit and today was my mother's birthday, so we spent some time together, which means I'm a little late with this, but.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG IT IS ANOTHER WEDNESDAY (well, Thursday Friday now) WHICH MEANS ONE PIECE 579 IS OUT.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. I knew something major was going to happen in this chapter, I'd seen vague reactions (but no actual spoilers), but I had no idea what and I DID NOT EXPECT THAT.
I was reading along and almost sort of disappointed, because nothing major had happened yet and then, WHAM, FUCKING SHANKS SHOWS UP TO END THIS WAR, HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
I literally clapped my hands over my heart because OH MY GOD I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING HOLY SHIT OMG OMG OMG. I guess Shanks is done with whatever it took to hold Kaidou back? And OMFG WHAT AN ENTRANCE.
Like, okay, I love you, Coby, especially to show that finally one of the Marines is standing up for what's clearly not right. Even Smoker was thinking it--that they'd basically won here, but they only kept getting more and more bloodthirsty, but it's not until COBY stands up and says, jfc, IT'S ENOUGH ALREADY. If nothing else, my opinion of the Marines has kind of gone down a notch. Even Garp and Smoker and Tashigi--one of them really should have stood up and said, seriously, knock it the fuck off already. But, no, it's COBY, THE LITTLE ONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE MUCH STRENGTH, BUT STOOD UP ANYWAY.
And then fucking Sakazuki is ready to punch a hole through Coby as well and then OMG SHANKS SHOWS UP IN THE MIDDLE AND HE IS HERE TO PUT AN END TO THIS "WAR" OMFG. SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS--!!
Though, I have no fucking idea where any of this is going. Is Shanks going to see Luffy again? Did Oda plan to have Shanks show up when Luffy's too out of it to realize he's there? Shanks picked up Luffy's hat (which broke my heart, let me tell you), will he just plunk it back on Luffy's head, saying that Luffy will give it back to him when he's ready? Or will he be there when Luffy wakes up to grieve with him?
Trafalgar Law basically said they were diving RIGHT THE HELL NOW, so I don't know if they even saw Shanks show up? They saw Coby stand up, but we don't really see the Hearts Pirates reacting (to Shanks' arrival)? We do see Luffy's unconscious face, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything either way. It's just... but... but... I can't imagine Luffy waking up without the hat! Losing his nakama, losing Ace, losing Whitebeard, losing the hat... it's almost too much, I just don't want to think about Luffy waking up without his hat!
The hat thing especially breaks my heart because... okay, I knew it was never going to happen, but. I'd notice that Luffy had dropped his hat and I'd seen speculation about how that'd be the perfect re-entrance for Ace, that he's not really dead, that he'll pick up Luffy's hat (since we don't know where Ace's body has gotten off to) and bring it back with a, Jeez, you really are way too much trouble, stupid little brother, with a grin on his face and plunking it back on Luffy's head.
But if Shanks picked it up, then that's one more possibility shut down that Ace might come back. And I know that. I know Ace isn't coming back. But I could see it so clearly and it still kind of hurts to have that yanked away.
This chapter also continues with the totally epic two-page spreads, especially that one of Marineford tilting this way and that, just... holy shit, Oda. I mean, I know the Marines can just rebuild it, but the sheer chaos that Oda manages to pack into this chapter is amazing. There are so many people being juggled in these scenes and yet I'm not feeling shortchanged at all!
P.S. I know Buggy is a rat bastard and that's never changed, but. Okay, he's gained a smidge of affection for me for just tossing Luffy and Jimbei over to Trafalgar Law and going, HERE, YOU CAN HAVE THEM, PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW. LOLOLOLOL, ILU BUGGY.
P.P.S. OMG ODA PLEASE LET SHANKS AND BUGGY HAVE A QUICK SCENE TOGETHER, IT PROMISES SO MUCH HILARITY.
P.P.P.S. OMG Shanks vs Akainu? Awesome. Especially when Shanks stops Sakazuki's magma fist with his sword and it's a delicious taste of Haoshaku Haki vs Logia fruit battles that are sure to come up again later.
