Has someone totaled up everyone's scores on Falling Pipe and averaged them out yet? .

OH GOD DAMN YOU. :(
(Lol, okay, so it won't take nearly as long as the smack tally is -still- taking me, and it'll be fun to do this, if no one else says they have, that is, but still. I'm going to pretend to be angry, haha.)

Okay, going back to read the rest of the post now.

HEY, I MADE POSTS ABOUT ARASHI KISSING EACH OTHER AND I TOTALED UP THE MMA WINS/LOSSES FOR KODOMO NO BANGOHAN. OTHER PEOPLE NEED TO START PULLING THEIR WEIGHT AROUND HERE.

(Th...though, I was kind of considering doing it myself it someone else hadn't yet. >_>)

I really, really love you a lot for the smack tally, by the way. And kind of FEAR YOU for undertaking such a crazy project. XDDDD

AHAHAHA. The things this fandom does to us.

Sorry to ruin your fun, love, but I did it already. :D
Jun: 104
Ohno: 83
Nino: 60
Aiba: 51
Sho: 36

I've slowed down quite a bit on the smack tally, but I'm still in the middle of Nama Arashi, which is just... Okay, so Nino and Jun were sort of looking like they might carry on an even race til the end, and then this show came along and HOLY CRAP MATSUMOTO. He is, like, laying down smackdowns left and right. I don't have my tally sheet with me right now, so no exact figures, but at this point I'm convinced that he's going to win (and, more specifically Jun > Ohno is going to win). Not that this is unexpected, but Nino was certainly giving him a run for his money for a while. I-I am still wishing that Aiba will come from behind as the dark horse in the competition and own them all, but lol, I don't think it's going to happen at this point. I still think Jun <> Aiba wins for most creative forms of abuse, though, hahaha. The videos will certainly be fun to make. ♥

TELL ME ABOUT IT. orz

*curious* Do you have the exact numbers? How many times they've each played, how much their scores were in a given episode? It'd be interesting to see how often someone consistently scored versus someone like Jun, who can miss sometimes, but when he scores, he tends to score hugely.

AHAHAHAHAHA, was it really ever in contest that Jun would probably win the smack contest? Though, I'm also totally curious about Sho, because I can't hardly remember him smacking anyone or even getting smacked! I totally bet that Aiba gets the most smacks to the head, though, doesn't he? XDDDD

Well, I deleted the file right after writing down the averages, but if my memory is serving me right, Jun, Ohno, and Aiba play most often (I think the numbers were, respectively, 16, 15, and 14), whereas Nino and Sho were in the single digit range, maybe 7 or so? Sho is actually pretty consistent - he's gotten 50 quite a few times and he's never missed completely. Nino was all over the place - he had I think two 100s and a 150, a miss (or two?), and a couple lower-to-mid-range numbers. Jun was hilarious to look at, because he got quite a few 0s in the beginning just from that white part of the pipe, but then, you know scores in the 200s came up repeatedly and saved him. 230 was a number I saw quite often, oddly, at least a couple times with Jun and once with Ohno. Both Jun and Ohno are up and down with their scores - they seem pretty unpredictable to be honest (though I realized that Ohno did a lot better than I remembered in the first 10 episodes or so.) Aiba, I think, has improved, but I could just be imagining that. Sho may ( ... )

You know, as totally glad as I am that they changed the numbering on the pipes and how much mileage I got out of the whole AND THE VSA STAFF-SAN LIVE ANOTHER DAY \o/ when Jun didn't get a 0 for being so close to the white tape, I kind of miss that whole, "Oh, man, Jun is going to kill them in their sleep. .__." era. And I know he's gotten really ridiculously high scores a couple of times, but I can't think if any of the others have done the same? It'd be really interesting to look at their scores all laid out like that, too~~ XD ( ... )

Ahaha, I know what you mean. Skimming back through those bits was very nostalgic. As of right now, Ohno, Aiba, and Jun are the only ones to get above 200, Aiba I think only once (210) and Ohno... I think he's gotten a couple 200s and a 230, and... I can't remember if there was anything else. No one's gotten a 400 besides Jun, though, o-or even a 300, I believe (again, this is all from memory, granted quite recent memory, but still.)

I AM GOING TO GO THROUGH EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING I CAN GET MY HANDS ON AHAHAHA. Well, maybe not quite that far, but. Well. That's the original plan. I've been going haphazard, actually. So far I've stuck to just their regular TV shows. I've gone through all of D no Arashi, Shukudai, Mayonaka, MMA, GRA, and Waza-ari. I've also done more recent episodes of VS and Himitsu as they come out, and I've been going through G no Arashi as taijiproject releases the episodes. It pretty much depends on what I've got downloaded, what's most convenient to watch and keep track of, and what I'm interested in seeing. I'm ( ... )

I'm kind of envious of your project (not that I would ever undertake it, because I'm not crazy XD) because it's a great excuse to watch all those shows and really get through a lot of their material. (And, you know what I really want for this fandom? A more comprehensive list of links of where to get stuff. Like, I appreciate yuckie_chan's list of subs and Arashian Files' massive download links, but I really want everything organized into handily accessible tables, like with info on who subbed it and resolution sizes and everything! *wistful*)

.....actually, it would be kind of awesome to go through other VSA games and see the kinds of scores they get. Like Cliff Climb or note who knocks over the rolling coin tower the most, etc. Pinball Runner might be hard to figure, though, because that one depends on the supporter even more than Cliff Climb does. XD

No, I understand. It's a huge time drain, and it starts to feel like a bit of a chore sometimes, but it really is fun, especially rewatching things I'd only seen right when I was just starting to fall in love and didn't know much about the group. It's also fun because shows like Mayonaka are so under the radar in this fandom - most people haven't seen them so they're not talked about - the most you'll see is a funny clip here and there, or a few seconds in a fanvideo. I mean, I knew almost nothing about Nama Arashi, but now in my head it's like, the "Ohno and Matsujun find creative new ways to flirt with each other for an hour on live TV" show. :D :D :D So, yeah, I'm really enjoying myself. A list like that would be nice, for the new fans and old ones alike. There is just SO MUCH, though, and people get a bit touchy about crediting and all that. There are some things I've been searching for for AGES, that I know exist somewhere out there, but only seem to show up in, like, clips from Chinese streaming sites, hahaha. Like I ( ... )

Oh, man, yes. I really want some of the older Waza-ari episodes to get more attention, too, because they have some serious gold in them, but I also understand why they fly under the radar. There's a lot more demand in fandom for their current shows and because there are three of them, along with all their tv appearances and all the interviews they do, there's really not a lull in the canon that would let most translators have the free time to get bored and go back to do some of the older shows. Hell, not even Shukudai-kun is all the way subbed and I would totally go for more recent Shukudai-kun eps being subbed than I would for the older shows, as much as I love them ( ... )

I'm with you on this. It's really difficult for me to want subs for older shows when Shukudai still isn't finished. It's kind of mind-boggling to think about something like the NEWS fandom, where the only things that need to be subbed are TV appearances and concert DVDs. Also, I feel like most of the time, I don't really need subs. It's just occasionally where there's a single line or a conversation that I'm absolutely dying to understand. It's weird how, after picking up so much Japanese, one of the biggest draws of subs for me now is the idea that more people in fandom are going to be exposed to some amazing things that every Arashi fan ought to see. (I can feel the rec posts forming in my head already... D:) What's really great about going through these older episodes too is seeing guests who are going to show up later in their careers. By which I mean OH MY GOD, ARASHI'S FIRST TIME MEETING SHIBATA RIE. (Which was not as epic as it could have been, but was still interesting just because, come on, SHIBATA RIE ( ... )

I can feel the rec posts forming in my head already...

I WANT TO DO THIS SO BAD. I mean, I'm already sort of doing it with the posts I make all the time, but they're spoilery for the funny stuff that happens in the episodes, so I don't think they could really serve as recs posts, so much as reaction posts. I really, really want to put together a better recs list of stuff to watch or a list of episodes for new fans to start out, but that's so hard, because some of the best stuff you want to save until you know them better. Like, I wouldn't want someone to start off with the boating saga from MMA, because it's not really the normal tone for the group and you wouldn't really appreciate all the insights with it, you know?

I'm not in the other fandoms nearly as deeply, so I don't know how much we get subs compared to what other fandoms get subs, but it does seem like we must at least be up there in terms of fandom production? I swear we're getting busier and busier, too. There was so much promotional stuff subbed for Hanadan Final ( ... )

I KNOOOOW. It's hard to decide whether you'd want to do it for new fans or old fans or simply yourself, or to divide it up, or what. And, yeah, I keep thinking about how the first videos you see of a person can really shape the way you look at them, and even if that image changes after a few weeks or even months, it's still going to have an impact. And the last thing you want to do is direct new fans in weird directions, haha ( ... )

It's natural to want to start with focus on your own favorite band member or interaction between your own favorite pairing, plus it's so hard to remember what was a really good starting place when you're dealing with, like, a thousand episodes of various shows, and that's not even counting dramas. (Which I tend to think are a great place for people to start, there's a reason why a good chunk of fans are Junbaited into Arashi. XD) I'd love to see someone do a post where people could chime in with a short list of their favorite recommendations to start with, it'd be great for new fans, I think.

Since I'm not that heavily involved with other fandoms, I don't know who gets as many shows as Arashi does--doesn't TOKIO have a whole crapload of shows when you take into account their individual members' other shows? (Like Aiba with TSD.) And I'm not sure how many SMAP has or how often they get subbed. Or how many shows K8 has. But when I look at the group comms for posting subs, when I checked in on other groups, it didn't seem like ( ... )
