NaNoWriMo is a Go!

(More on my crazy vacation later, plus photos! Too busy writing now...)

After a bit of hesitation (mostly due to my lack of planning and the fact that I've been busy all day this November 1st) I've decided to fully invest and do National Novel Writing Month for the fourth (or fifth?) year in a row. A few novel ideas have been floating in my mind, but I'll do my best to complete a proper novel this year instead of devolving into writing some fanfic like last year. This year, I'm going to write what I know... sort of. I'm a trye Canadian, so I know about winters and snowshoeing and tanning hides etc. So why not set a story up in Nunavut?

Oh, and make it a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel.

Rough title: Nunavut Calling

Summary:
Over five hundred years after a nuclear apocalypse, most of the Earth is still uninhabited, except for a few isolated Northern communities in Nunavut, forgotten in the rush to evacuate the planet dozens of generations before. Science has become practical myth, with the remnants of the internet and other technologies accessible only to a select few holy women. The shaman of the largest settlement (composed of a bare thousand people), Pipaluk, and her two partners, Tiriaq (a healer) and Qillaq (a hunter),must investigate the strange new visions Pipaluk is getting over The Net.

Meanwhile, Taurus32, a float-plane glider and convicted criminal hacker, is assigned the worst punishment possible by New Earth authorities: to join a handful of others working out of a tiny scientific outpost on Old Earth. Their mission is to discover the potential viability of a recolonization program of their former home planet. Under the stern hand of the man they call 1Pound1, Taurus32 and others who would really rather serve a prison sentence safe on New Earth must explore old territory and see if a supposedly barren planet can be made habitable again.

Two humanities clash.
