Nino slumped into the bus seat next to Ohno, feeling tired and slightly annoyed. He was vaguely aware of the way Ohno smiled at him cheerfully and had rested his hand on top of Nino's, but he wasn't paying attention. His thoughts were swirling around in his head about the events that happened with his father, making him confused and giving him a slight headache. “What did you do?” Nino finally asked.

Ohno observed him silently, then squeezed his hand softly. “Not now,” he whispered. Nino bit his lip and looked away. He knew he had to trust Ohno, but it was just hard when the boy was doing things behind his back.

“Sorry,” Ohno said so softly that Nino almost couldn't hear him. “Just a couple more days, please, Nino.”

Nino started at the use of 'sorry' and 'please' coming from Ohno's mouth. He looked at the older student incredulously, then lifted his hand and put it to Ohno's forehead. “It's not hot..” Nino muttered, confused. He yelped quietly when Ohno licked his wrist suddenly. “That was not necessary,” Nino growled, taking his hand back and rubbing his wrist lightly.

“No,” Ohno agreed much too easily with a smile. Nino bristled in annoyance, but he let it slide, his thoughts going back to Ohno's apology. Was it really such a big deal that Ohno would go so far as to say those unlikely words? It made Nino uncomfortable. However, Ohno snuggled closer to Nino, and he unconsciously let himself melt into Ohno's warmth.

“What is with you two?”

Nino jumped at the familiar, extremely close voice, and pushed Ohno away so forcefully that he had to have been painfully slammed against the bus's window.

“You?!” Nino stared at the girl who confessed to him before he got together with Ohno. He heard Ohno make a small grunting noise, then spun around to worriedly confront the older student. “I-I didn't mean to- are you okay?”

Ohno smiled thinly back, though there was something like annoyance in his eyes. Nino whimpered softly, scared of a tempered Ohno. He hadn't meant to push Ohno away violently, but he wasn't ready to let other students know of their relationship so quickly. Nino looked quickly back at the girl, Miko. “What?” He snapped at her.

“I saw you two before on the bus,” Miko said accusingly. “Don't you guys cuddle together a bit too much?” Nino raised his eyebrows, a little surprised at the way she sounded now compared to when she was being shy around him before.

“I wish we could more,” Ohno muttered softly next to Nino. Nino ribbed Ohno with his elbow sharply, forgetting that he was just adding more pain to the guy's annoyance.

“This guy is just super sensitive to the cold, he can't control himself!” Nino rushed to speak out the quickest lie he could come up with. (It was half true, he supposed.) “What, did you think there would actually be anything more with us?” Nino scoffed, hoping his acting skills would work.

Ohno leaned over Nino to get a clearer view of the girl, who looked as if she were debating whether she could believe Nino or not. “Hey, why'd you interfere?” His voice was enough to make both Nino and Miko shiver, when Nino realized just how irritated Ohno was. Miko scowled slightly then got off the bus with the other students after it stopped in front of the school. Nino quickly followed them out, pulling Ohno with him.

Once they were in a safe, empty corridor inside the school, Nino finally slowed down, then hesitantly looked at his boyfriend.

A pout.

“Oh, come on,” Nino groaned exasperatedly.

“There's nothing wrong with telling the truth,” Ohno said stubbornly.

“Yes, there is! I mean, I don't give a damn what kids here think, but if my dad finds out then I'll be-”

Ohno broke Nino off with a quick kiss, then leaned back.

“... Kiss-a-holic,” Nino muttered, wiping his mouth.

“'Cause Nino's lips are pretty,” Ohno replied with a smirk.

“Don't act all high and mighty all of a sudden,” Nino snapped, shoving his hands into his pockets and turning away. He missed the wistful look Ohno shot at him. “I'm sick of being the bottom one here!” Nino whirled back to face Ohno again, flashing him an angered face.

“You haven't actually been on the bottom yet, since we never did it-”

“Ohno, why do I have to wait? Why can't you just tell me what you did?” Nino was almost desperate for an answer. He was sick and tired of feeling like an idiot whenever he was with Ohno. “This isn't going to work,” Nino said in a low, shaky voice. “Even if I still love you, I don't see how our relationship will hold out!” He didn't notice that Ohno's hand fisted tightly, but could only see the way Ohno's face kept a careful, neutral expression.

Nino sighed and left the scene almost slowly, as if hoping for Ohno to grab his arm and stop him, maybe even kiss him again. But Ohno didn't, so Nino continued walking away until he reached his classroom.

“Nino,” Aiba called, then whispered to him, “coming over to practice the guitar today?”

“No,” Nino responded quickly, shaking his head.

“Ehh?” Aiba whined. “Weren't you practicing for Ohno?”

“I wasn't!” Nino put his bag heavily on his desk, his thoughts going to the song he'd worked on despite himself. Even if he went, Nino didn't think he'd be able to concentrate well enough to play anything.

Sho looked at the low test score he had gotten for the first time, but he couldn't care. Not when Ohno actually failed his art test. It was worrying, because even when Ohno was out of shape he'd always turn to art to calm himself down. Sho placed a sandwich in front of Ohno during their lunch break, then sat across from the student.

Ohno gave Sho a slight smile and took the sandwich. “Sorry,” Ohno said, “about your test. You don't have to worry so much about me.”

“Don't say that when you're the one who failed,” Sho said, frowning sternly. “Is it Nino again?” He had noticed Ohno enter the classroom before, with a pained look in his eyes. It hurt Sho to see it- he wouldn't let Nino get off so lightly.

“Don't blame him,” Ohno said, as if reading Sho's thoughts. “I'm not a good lover at all,” he sighed. “Nino has all the right to be mad at me.”

Even though he said that, Sho still sought Nino out after school. It wasn't hard, as the guy was in the music room as predicted. “Don't ignore me,” Sho said when Nino didn't look at him after one small glance.

“Nino, Satoshi's hurt. I'm his best friend, so I would know.” Sho noticed that Nino's body seemed to tense, but he didn't reply back. “I don't know what you said to him, but don't leave it like this, okay?”

“He deserves it,” Nino murmured, but Sho could see that he didn't mean it.

“Yeah, maybe,” Sho replied back, surprising Nino. “But maybe he'll change your opinion.” Sho smiled a little and shrugged as Nino gave him a look.

“Will no one tell me what's going on?” Nino sighed but nodded. “I'll..I'll wait,” he said softly, looking away. Sho's smile got wider, glad that Ohno's boyfriend really did love him.

The next day Nino didn't see Ohno, and he felt a little disappointed. He was hoping that Ohno would tell him something for one- and maybe he wanted to apologize to Ohno, but Nino didn't think about that too much.

When Nino arrived at his house, he noticed that the place was empty. It was then that Nino realized with a start that he hadn't seen his dad at all the previous day, nor in the morning before he left for school. Nino figured they were both busy with work, so he busied himself with schoolwork until nighttime came. He was about to call his mom to see if he'd have to find something to eat by himself, when he heard the door open.

“Ah, there you are,” Nino said, going to the entrance to see his mom walk in. Nino was surprised to see that she looked lively, though it seemed like she was trying to hold it in. She had a few grocery bags in her hands, so Nino helped her bring them into the kitchen. Nino noticed that she stilled, looking as if she wanted to say something. “Mom?”

“Kazu-kun...” Nino's mother smiled hesitantly. “I..Your father and I, we've been deciding on our divorce.”

“Divorce!?” Nino's eyes widened.

“Is it okay with you?” She asked, concerned.

“You should know,” Nino said quietly, his heartbeat rising excitedly. “But why all of a sudden..?”

“He was only insisting on staying in the family because my job pays good money, and he thought that if you became a good pianist you'd provide money for us as well.”

“Wait,” Nino cut her off, a sudden question springing into his mind. “Why the piano? I mean, what's he got against the guitar?”

His mom shook her head slowly. “I'm not too clear on the details, but he wasn't allowed to play the guitar when he was your age. It's turned into a subject he's extremely touchy on.”

“So that's it?” Nino sighed, then realized he'd be able to play the guitar freely if the divorce worked.

“Your friend, Ohno-kun..” His mother continued, “He came the other day and said he could provide the money for the divorce. More than enough, actually, for your father so that he couldn't complain.”

“Ohno did?” Nino swallowed, feeling something strange in his stomach.

“I didn't want to accept the money so easily, but he said it's for you.” She laughed softly and ruffled Nino's hair. “He really cares about you.” Nino bit his lip, still unable to believe the news so easily. “Tomorrow will be the last day your father is staying here,” his mother said.

--

The weekend came, and Nino's father left. Nino invited Ohno over, because his mom insisted that she should at least be able to treat him to dinner.

Unfortunately, Nino found Ohno with him up in his room after they finished eating. He felt awkward being alone with Ohno after all that happened, but he knew he would have to apologize as much as he didn't want to.

“I'm-”

“I didn't know you had so many awards,” Ohno said, looking at Nino's collection of 'best young pianist' awards impressively.

“They're nothing to be proud of,” Nino muttered. “They were all because of my dad. If I'm going to get anymore, they'll be for me alone.” Nino smiled softly at the idea- and more at the idea that he might be able to get guitar awards as well. It was probably a distant dream at the moment though; he only had little practice with the guitar.

“Hey,” Nino said, looking at Ohno, “Sho-kun told me you were hurt after our last conversation, was that true?” Nino teased, smirking a little.

Ohno blinked and smiled at Nino. “Yeah.”

“W-What? Don't say that so easily while smiling,” Nino grumbled, crossing his arms. Ohno laughed and walked closer to Nino, then hugged him and brought the two of them tumbling onto Nino's bed.

“You know what they say: your bond is stronger after a lover's quarrel. Does that mean sex, I wonder..?” Ohno said thoughtfully. Nino flushed a strong red colour, trying to wiggle out of Ohno's grasp.

“Not when my mom's still down there!” Nino rolled over until he was the one on top of Ohno.

“So you'd do it if she weren't?” Ohno kissed Nino hotly before Nino could think to hit him, gaining control again.

Nino pulled back after a while, panting a little. “I just wanted to say thank you,” Nino managed to say breathlessly, hurriedly untangling himself from Ohno and getting off the bed. “You're so annoying,” Nino whined, sitting down in a chair farthest away from the bed.

“Oh! The movie ticket...I don't have it anymore,” Nino said, remembering how his dad had ripped it apart. Ohno hummed thoughtfully, probably already guessing correctly on what happened with it.

“Come to my house, then,” Ohno proposed. Nino blinked, a little shocked and worried. What if Ohno did something to him while he was there? Nino mentally shook his head firmly- he was a guy for god's sake; he could take care of himself.

“Fine,” Nino answered, as if boldly accepting a challenge. “And what are you still doing here? I'm not losing my virginity just yet.”

A/N: bummer @ Nino. Dx
SO YAY, no more daddy. I hope no one's thinking I'm taking the easy way out or something, but I always planned to have a divorcement. .-. (and it just seems too impossible to have Nino's father come to love the kid, he's just not that kind of character in this fic.) OH WHATEVER, the dude's not worth thinking too much about. (.__.") so let's look forward to Ohmiya teenage romance.. (unless I have something else up my sleeve..?)
