It is a necessity for me along with mascara. I feel like I need it but I'm very pale and without it feel washed out. I never contour though. Just a light pink wash is usually what I wear. The only time I don't is when I wear red lipstick because I feel like it's clashy.

it's a MUST for me =)

I find that if I wear foundation without blush my makeup looks 'flat'....

I love buying blush. I'm NC20-25 and I can wear most shades. You sound really fair so I'd recommend a soft peach or pink.

I agree. Orgasm is a go-to blush.

Admittedly I've looked at it, but I haven't tried it. I was kind of scared off after hearing that it made for an awesome red eyeshadow.

I'll have to ask one of the Sephora girls to attempt it on me before I drop the money on it. Thanks!

I am very pale and I find that blush genuinely makes me looks better, much more so than any other product so it is a must for me.
Highlighting also makes me look really nice, but I do not do that every time.
I do not think contour or bronzer is a must on the other hand.
I can tell when people are wearing it or not, but there is the occasional person with naturally rosy cheeks who can fool anyone, and these people definitely do not need blush.
If you wear foundation, I think that increases your need for blush because a lot of people will otherwise look lifeless with the colour in their face so evened out.
It doesn't look to me like your skin tone would be that hard to put blush onto, but I don't know what they were doing with a yellow tan.. I think more reds and pinks maybe purples would go with it. It also depends on your hair colour though, because that might be the reason they put orange on you. I do not think brown would look good on you however.
If the blush looks weird then try blending it out a lot. Start subtle.

I do use a highlighter regularly; I guess that's my compensation. :P

The yellow incident was hilarious afterwards, but I wanted to go home because I was just starting my day Xmas shopping and now had these weird colors blended into my foundation! The MA called it "runway blush," but it looked kind of bizarre. The picture she was going off was of a platinum blonde; my hair is natural-black.

So far I've been having the MAs at the counters and stores put it on for me, because I'm not experienced enough with it to know how much, what shade, where it goes and where to blend to, etc. Maybe I should be doing it myself instead of letting them go to town?

I rarely wear it because like you, I can never find a colour that looks just right on me (I haven't really looked hard, though - I think I look okay without it) and I think I look bettr with none at all than with one that looks silly. I'm blonde and quite fair and I want a very pale pink or peachy colour for the times when I do want to wear it.

I only really notice when people are wearing way too much.

That's kind of the boat I'm in; I can see when people are wearing too much, and I otherwise wouldn't wear it at all. I'm just seeing it show up in everyone's list of products when they show a look and starting to feel like I might be missing out.
