It was extremely dark, cold and rainy on the drive home tonight. That deep kind of darkness that sets in during December and doesn't leave until late january.
But every once in a bit I'd see christmas lights on shrubs and doorways and fences, and it's amazing how they really do pierce the blackness and make me feel cheerful, if only for that moment.
In the spirit of that, I put up my first decorations tonight. I put them up slowly, a few each day, ending with the wreath on the door, and take them down slowly after new years.
