hometown-speak

Just settling in here after a day in Peterborough, my hometown. We visited my mom, some friends and toured around a while, checking out my old neighborhood.

Funny how I've noticed that whn I'm here my ways of describing directions reverts quickly back to landmark-speak, which makes it more difficult for Dave to understand where I'm telling him to turn.

For example, instead of saying "go down lansdowne street, and turn right at the third set of lights" i'll say "go down the street past the place that used to be the hardware store near the one gas station, and when you see the Burger King turn right by street before the arena."

Of course to a native of the area these directions make sense, but I had to translate them back into english for Dave. :)
