Germs + orbit = deadlier germs

It sounds like the plot for a scary B-movie: Germs go into space on a rocket and come back stronger and deadlier than ever. Except, it really happened.

Anybody else disappointed that they didn't mention The Andromeda Strain?

I think I'm on my final revision for the short story I've been working on since...Friday or Saturday. Going to do a final sweep, see if I can get some critique, do last minute touch-ups...and I need to think of a title.

Damn, do I hate coming up with titles. Some pieces just scream one out to you, but others (like this one) are a total pain about it ( Read more... )

Oh man, I live for this kind of stuff.

This is pretty awesome. It seriously seems like something out of science fiction and those forensic dramas that use technology that doesn't even exist yet. But hey, now this thing is being prepped for hospital use. That's just damn spiffy. Here's the U of C CAVEman website.

Contaminated Salvador Lake attracts birds

My guess is that they're all addicted to the caffeine running in from the coffee processing plants.

Lloyd Alexander died yesterday.

Out of his books, I've only read Time Cat and maybe a quarter of The Black Cauldron (which I couldn't get into and had a not-so-great movie adaptation made after it), but the news still made me a bit sad. Time Cat was one of my favorite books when I was younger. Lots of creatives seem to be dying lately. It's sad.

Now on shelves: "New" Tolkien Fantasy!!!

Put into publication by his 82-year-old son. DAYUM. From the article:

"'The Children of Hurin' is the second novel published after Tolkein's death in 1973. 'The Silmarillion,' which touches on 'The Children of Hurin,' was published 1977."

Bah. I don't even know what to think about this one.

Jim directed me to a neat little "blogging" site by the name of Tumblr. It's like blogging for idiots! Doesn't leave a lot of room for customization (unless you want to venture into the "custom" setting territory), but it's still fun. I uh...kinda sorta made one of my own. I'm using it to post little writing prompts. Yay for simple little projects!
