Today we went to breakfast at 6:30 and then headed out to clinic. I wrote labels for pills and rubber banded pill pouches. A team went outside to scrape, sand, & paint but Stan asked me to stay inside since I've got a cold. This evening I'm feeling much better and hopefully I'm on the downswing of it. The children helped with the outside crew. I took bracelets to them and as soon as one kid got one all I saw were dirty little hands all around my face & the kids screaming "Muoy, Muoy", which I assume means "me, me!"
I went to the bathroom today and was squatted down and there staring at me not one foot away was a lizard. It startled me, but we just looked at each other for a while and then he ran away into his hiding spot.
After lunch we had a short amount of time so we went to find an internet connection. Dan, Kathy, & I all sent emails home. The net was dial up and only cost me 1000 riel (25 cents) for 15 minutes.
We went around the market for a bit and saw some very interesting things: dishes being washed on the ground in buckets, large tubs full of catfish in just enough water to keep the fish wet, so packed in they were touching each other, big chunks of ice being cut with a handsaw, women hacking the heads off fish, gutting them, and throwing the leftovers into the street, fish drying in the sun...
We saw about 160 patients today--one a baby only two weeks old that needed antibiotic drops for her eyes.
This evening Cynthia isn't feeling well. Dr. Jim diagnosed her with vertigo perhaps exaggerated by sinus issues. She stayed in for dinner.
We actually had french fries for dinner, YAY! Praise you Jesus, what a reward! John's birthday was today so we surprised him with a cake--it was very elaborate and tasted good. Not the rich butter cream icing like home but a softer lighter version--not so sweet.
God's answered prayers today: I was able to contact home, I am feeling better, and I was able to go to the bathroom for the first time in four days.
-oh yeah, the bathroom thing-I had to experience a BM for the first time in an eastern toilet. I went to one that was a little more private and had Christine watch the door. I had to use baby wipes and then put them into a small trash bag, tie it up, and throw it in a garbage bag.
I had issues with my camera today--I finished up the 1GB memory that I brought and inserted the brand new 4GB memory. It wasn't working so luckily there was a small film shop next to where we're staying. I went to see if they had memory cards but they didn't. He did offer to burn the photos onto a disc for me, so I had that done. I have no way of knowing if the photos are on there or if the discs work so I'm afraid to delete the photos to clear the memory. Emily, our guide, has offered to check the discs for me in her computer but she's afraid of viruses so I might try the internet place tomorrow.
Tonight I pray for my family, for my wellness, for Cynthia's wellness, for my tolerance, along with all the other normal things this team needs to do this mission. Oh and for our worship to go smoothly & the music to work tomorrow since we had problems today--and my camera issues.
Now I have to lay down my head...
