I question my fathering ability often, but one of my biggest fears is that I'm inadvertently programming my child for failure. I'm always worried that some little side comment with be taken to heart and negatively affect him. For example, my kid is currently teething. So the phrase "Have some yogurt it'll make you feel better" was uttered. I immediately thought, "Oh no. I just programmed him to seek comfort food!" I don't know that I did. I don't think that's how it works. But every once in a while I find myself seriously concerned that I'm setting my kid up to fail.
Speaking of fail, I'm exhausted with blu-rays. Don't get me wrong, I love the quality and they do cool things, but they've aggravated a problem that started with DVDs a while ago. More and more I'll pop a movie in and hit Menu and it'll say "this operation is not available." The FBI warning, okay, that's fine, force me to watch it, but then an advertisement for AFI comes up. Menu: "Unavailable". Top Menu: "Not Available." Forward: "No." You can't get around it. The best you can do is set the speed to 30x and make it go faster. That's total bullshit. I can't stand that they do that. Pretty soon they'll lock out the entire remote. You'll put in a movie and be forced to watch 47 minutes of trailers, commercials, and corporate logos. You want to stop piracy? Stop making it so damn hard to watch the movies I've paid for!
