Sooooooo, this is what's bothering me lately. If anyone has been keeping up to date with Christopher Nolan's movie projects then you know about most of the cast selections of his latest to be released next summer movie 'Inception'. Three actors, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe and Cillian Murphy you already have seen in his Batverse introduced in 'Batman Begins' already...anyway I'm digressing, so they cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt as one of the actors probably playing an antagonist/traitor type as I imagine most characters in the film are except perhaps the Leonardo Di Caprio character who is a protagonist(or we're led to believe that so far). The thing is...it's hard not to google Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Inception together in the search engine and not see people discussing him as the next Nolan!Joker.
........yeah =/
I'm not gonna lie it puts a sinking, sick feeling in my stomach even though I happen to like Gordon-Levitt too. The closest way I can explain how I feel about this if Nolan truly does place Joseph or even with whichever actor in this current Batman franchise's Joker shoes would be as if they ever replaced Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter as played by anyone by Anthony Hopkins. Whether sitting on cloud in heaven or alive and well and given with the previous actor's blessing you just don't mess with another person's perfectly executed role. Some things are so great and transcendant that they should remain untouched in its perfection.
...Plus, I'd like think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would like to be known as more than Heath Ledger's distant-twin brother-lookalike and the new Nolan!Joker replacement. I'd also like to think he has more sense and respect and won't touch one of the great legacy jeweled roles of a fellow great actor =/
...I'd also like to think Chris Nolan can be clever enough to make a new plot not relying on someone to play the Joker in the 3rd film and that of course he cares and respects Heath enough to know AND always remember that Heath OWNED the Joker in this Batman franchise, that it cannot be done like Heath has done...this is not an easier resolution like replacing Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal issue.
But then....maybe I'm placing too much trust in the Movie Biz, in Chris Nolan's respect and attachment to Heath and Heath's Joker, in hoping actors being slated by the rumor mill as being new Jokers will have respect and sense to turn down the role.
...*sigh* I don't know why I posted this but now I'm seriously depressed about all this now ;__________;
....anyway, Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' was very good and twistedly fun.
Additional edit: I guess I just don't want to feel alone in my views on this touchy subject too. It's so sad and enraging =/
