 Today's Canada Day.

My first response is to say "Canada sucks!" But that wouldn't be fair, and kind of a lie.

My second response really just goes to yet more girls I was with, briefly, who were from America's hat. One was actually kinda self-absorbed. All she wanted to talk about was how the US's government was so corrupt, that Americans were nothing but a bunch of rude, jingoist pricks. In a bit of irony, I broke things off over text. One of the few times I'd ever done it, and probably the only time I could justify it. The other was a girl who was actually pretty cool. Only hung for a couple of days-- which, really, was about average for me at the time-- but she was generally laid back. Didn't care so much about the details. She was just in town with friends for a vacation. Most of my short-lived relationships ended up being pretty easy to break off because there was at least that initial understanding: It's just a fling. A few days to enjoy ourselves, and we walk away with the memory and little else. Some didn't get it-- in fact, quite a lot, now that I think about it-- but that was sort of part of the territory.

As for the country itself... I'd only ever been once. It's beautiful up there, honestly. Not exactly my scene; except for some of the key cities, there just isn't enough for me to do. Blame the short attention span caused by media overload throughout my life, but I'm not exactly the kinda person who takes in the sights of nature and snow. I like snow, sure, but not that much. I'd still... maybe like to visit again someday. If I ever go back, and when things in my own life sort of... settle down.

Which, admittedly, is a long ways out.

canada day, musing
