Hello!
It's time for another GENE translation~
This time, it's from BoyAge Renewal Vol. 8, issued on June 2019 :D
Their interview here is unlike their other interviews because they're talking about their favorite books. I myself love to read, so it's interesting to read about what the boys are reading ^_^
And thanks to this article, I have to do thorough searching on the net about the books and authors' names because I never heard of some of them XD
Here we go~
"My Three Favorite Books"
ALAN's Selection
01. "Baki" by Keisuke Itagaki
02. "Kinnikuman" by Yudetamago
03. "Kokou no Hito" by Shinichi Sakamoto
I like the whole series of "Baki" and it becomes my motivation in training. If it's going to be adapted into live-action, I'd like to play the role "Baki"! That's what I'm training myself for... (laugh). From "Kinnikuman", I learn about the spirit of treasuring friends and being considerate to my rivals. Above all, I admire Suguru's manliness and easygoing side. "Kokou no Hito" tells about how tough it is to climb mountain alone and the spirit to face those difficulties. From all manga I've read so far, it has the most beautiful artwork. It's just a perfect art.
MANDY's Selection
01. "Bibiri" by EXILE HIRO
02. "Hip Hop Family Tree" by Ed Piskor
03. "Boon" (Magazine)
"Bibiri" has become my bible. I think it's like the basic way of life in LDH. HIRO-san's book "B Boy Salaryman" and "Bibiri" influence me a lot. I learn about being considerate to my surroundings, doing things whole-heartedly, and also that something good will happen if I contiunously do my best. It's one reason that makes me able to work hard in this entertainment world which has no certain goals.
RYOTA's Selection
01. "Initiation Love" by Kurumi Inui
02. "Yūutsu De Nakereba Shigoto Ja Nai" by Toru Kenjo and Susumu Fujita
03. "Amaoto" by EXILE ATSUSHI
As for the first book, it's so cleverly written that after reading it, I can't forget the intense pleasure I've experienced while reading. I read books about self-improvement a lot and the second book is full of reality from its title to its content, and since the persuasive power of both author is impressive, it's worth to read. The third book is a book I'd like to have as a bible as a vocalist. I got wow-ed on ATSUSHI-san's personality and his respect toward music when I read this book.
REO's Selection
01. "Appare! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku" (Super Radical Gag Family) by Kenji Hamaoka
02. "Dragon Ball" by Akira Toriyama
03. "AKIRA" by Katsuhiro Otomo
In "Urayasu~" there's a scene when the character Kotetsu says to hopeless adult, "Just stop being adult", and I think it's really deep. Enjoying life has nothing to do with whether you're a child or an adult. Though "AKIRA" is known as a masterpiece now, even when I first read it on my junior high school days, I already viewed it that way. At that time, I often used Kaneda's line (the main protagonist of "AKIRA") "It's too wild for you to handle". It's Japanese slang.
RYUTO's Selection
01. "Crows" by Hiroshi Takahashi
02. "WORST" by Hiroshi Takahashi
03. "ONE PIECE" by Eiichiro Oda
It's the textbook of life! Friendship, comrades, youth... Though my list is actually endless, these three works are full of everything every man needs. There's a line from the character Kawachi Tesshou from "WORST" which I really like: "His older brother is also my older brother! His friends are my little brothers! His girl is my little sister! His parents are my parents!". I can feel how much he treasures his friend through that line, so I like that scene so much.
HAYATO's Selection
01. "Afro Tanaka" (the whole series) by Masaharu Noritsuke
02. "Yoru wa Mijikashi, Aruke yo Otome" (The Night is Short, Walk on Girl) by Tomihiko Morimi
03. "SKET DANCE" by Kenta Shinohara
For "Afro Tanaka", I grew up as an adult reading the process of how the main protagonist Hiroshi Tanaka grew from a high school boy into a working adult. So it's memorable for me. The second book is a novel which I, who usually don't read anything other than manga, read. There are 2 characters in that novel and as the story goes, the point-of-view is switched several times. It's interesting that I could imagine the scenes while reading. The third book is a heart-warming book which taught me about how precious the friends I have around me and also that I'm not alone.
YUTA's Selection
01. "NARUTO" by Masashi Kishimoto
02. "SAMURAI DEEPER KYO" by Akimine Kamijyo
03. "Seikimatsu Leader Den Takeshi!" by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro
The way of life of Naruto, the main protagonist in "NARUTO", is cool and I like it. There's a line, "Fate isn't something decided by someone else", and I think it's applicable not only in manga world but also in real life. Though at first everyone thought Naruto was stupid because he fell behind the others, he never gave up and pushed through his way that in the end, he turned out to be the hero who saved the world. I'm deeply moved by that. It makes me realize that you can change your own fate if you really work hard.
